My biggest question is this, in all our stalled drives and times we have looked inept on offense is this, is manning overthinking things or is he being to simple? Consistency would be the biggest thing that has bothered me this year. Sometimes we have looked impressive and breaking records and then we go quarters or even half of game where we look lost. That and all these triple motions and running play clock to 1 or 2

Overthinking or overdoing it. There's nothing complicated about a 4th and 1/2 foot but ISU continually made a production out of it all season.

I think our offense isn’t nearly as bad as the people constantly shitting on it act like it is.

That's fine, I just wanted to make sure I knew where you stood on it.

I really don't care about stats or records that much. I just watch our offense compared to watching others, and we look totally inept most of the time IMO. Totally vanilla. No variety of plays, no misdirection to keep any defense honest, no screens, no dump off option for Purdy to throw to when he's in trouble.... and the list can go on and on and on IMO.

Our offense is a plain vanilla running game, and the passing game consists of Purdy backpedaling while all our routes seem to be 15-20 yds downfield.... no quick slants or fly patterns.... only mid range passes.

Yeah, that’s not true at all.

Does ISU really have the talent to do a lot of misdirection and fly patterns, i.e. a legit deep threat?

'Creativity' on offense is over rated. Do a few things well that compliment other aspects.

Iowa evidently has the talent at the skill positions to do it.... but we don't? Okay.

Any OC is going to look bad with a marginal Oline and any OC can look amazing with a good OL. Also someone that's a threat over the top would help. Defenses really didn't have to respect ISU on the outside.

ISU did nothing today all that well and there wasn't anything to play off of.

The ****ing around when things are rolling for pointless plays has always been an issue though.
This is kind of the question I have. Does the bad offensive scheme, and questionable play calls reflect a bad OC or a mediocre offensive line and skill-position talent?

Definitely should fire the OC that broke school records over a meaningless bowl game. Smart decision makers would do that.
While this is true based on what appears to be some really bad defense being played in the big 12 maybe the records are being aided by that fact. We all thought the defenses were getting better in the conference but maybe not.

Does Iowa go deep often and do a lot of misdirection?

Do you think ISU has talent at the receiver position to go over the top? Or get someone to the outside?

Duh!
Wonder what things would be like if Candle had come with Campbell as OC. Manning stays OLine coach and continues to learn.

who called the plays last year. CMC?

We saw what "Plain Vanilla" looked like today. Notre Dame did nothing exotic and whooped us.

They did last night like crazy.

Iowa threw deep WAY more than us all season. I guess they just have the QB and WRs to do it, but we don't?

Nobody has yet to explain why we don't have a RB screen play.... or a simple dump off outlet for Purdy to throw to when he's in trouble. This is basic simple stuff that Manning just can't seem to design.

I'm littering this in other threads but we have 2 all americans, players all over all B12 teams, personal records, program records, league leading in categories, nation leading in other categories... We might be in better shape than some want to admit despite our failings.
