I am hoping that Freshman recruiting starts to mean something again as the Super Senior year(s) finally come to an end for so many players this year and next.

The SEC looks so good currently because of all of their "mature" teams. Of course, a first year college freshman is going to struggle against a guy five years or more older with extra years of playing experience, coaching, and weight training under his belt.

I understand that hope springs eternal, but it seems to me that it has to make a difference when the pool of mature players to construct a roster with finally shrinks.

If you had a premium membership you’d realize you don’t know you’re talking about here
I don’t have premium and I realize he doesn’t know what he’s talking about. That should earn me a comped premium sub, no?

Yes let's ban everyone with a contrarian perspective. That's how open forum of communication works. While we do that let's ban everyone that doesn't talk or look like the rest of us as well.
I liked this because it’s almost impossible to tell what I mean by liking it :D

Because we can only afford so many and it’s time to build a base again. Tamin will be a senior and Milan could be declaring after next season. He’s starting to show that he can be a consistent alpha.

Toure, Batemon, Mitchell and Pleta could be an amazing base to build on. All of them seem to be ready to compete for the opportunity to get rotational minutes next year.

If we want to go the route of all portal instead of any freshmen everyone is going to need to add a couple zeros behind there contributions.

If that’s the case could you spot me I’m a little short this month?,

Like I said, doing it because of budget limitations is one thing.

But it’s a completely different thing to say “I’d rather see us only add one guard/ wing in the portal allowing these freshmen to be our bench/ rotation guys in the backcourt”

Get old, stay old.

Plus annual free agency and the cost of retaining major freshmen contributors erodes the continuity argument

Very few schools have the budget flexibility to go 100% NI. / Portal route. You need a base and it’s time to rebuild that. It’s a little Like Hoiberg’s senior year. Floyd brought their replacements in a year early because that’s how the system worked back then as we all know. Those four fresh could be a very special group for us and personally I’d like to see them be the bulk of our bench next year.

I think ISU especially needs to be retaining talent more than churning year over year. You will miss on probably at least one or two a year but it's sooooo important for a program who so heavily relies on big buy-in on stuff like summer conditioning and defensive rotations, keeping guys who have been there, done that, AND reaped the rewards of doing so is monumental for the new additions.

I'm not banking on all 4 playing but I'm kinda sorta hoping expecting and probably will be disappointed but thinking that 3 will at least have some sort of a role? Maybe that would require TJ going deeper than he traditionally has so probably wishful thinking.

Yes, I posted that multiple times, but that’s not what you originally implied

If we have the budget to push a freshman out of the rotation, we’ll do it. Watch for a guy like Rohde to come in and push Toure or Batemon out of the 8-man, maybe both. If we have budget after that for another good transfer, we’ll do it again, although we won’t

Freshmen have a role in this era. They are cheap(er) crapshoot lotto tickets to get upside to supplement the base.

The base will rarely consist of more than a couple players brought in as freshmen. Freshmen aren’t really the continuity of previous eras. With one year contracts, good ones have more flight risk Year 2. Low impact ones need to be cut by Year 3 so you can keep playing the lottery

I wouldn’t expect Nojus or Rock to be back. Going into Year 5, we’ll have two freshmen last more than two years and be in the rotation, assuming Milan returns.

It really is but there’s no point arguing about it

I’m assuming TJ told him with Toure coming in as a PG, Moore wasn’t gonna see the floor much/at all, and gave him a release of his NLI
Is Toure is PG or SG? 247 has him as a SG but I know recruiting sites aren't always accurate on positions.

Half the quote
The other half doesn’t make that part any less flawed. Perhaps you didn’t mean to use the phrase “I’d rather”

We’re going to add at least one transfer that pushes a freshman out of the primary rotation. Two if we can swing it. And that’s what we RATHER have.
