lattimer and howard suspended indefinately

That "Honor before Victory" philosophy has had us in the toilet pretty much the last 30 years....while everyone else including the Hawks have had their time at the buffet table.

I understand the above...but I am sick and tired of losing...and I am ready to go all out "the Longest Yard".

The philosophy is clearly not the reason we have been in the toilet for 30 years. There are many reasons but that is not one of them. When it comes down to it ISU has treated its athletes just like other teams. We have not been any different. Heck, we even let berryman back on the team.

Alcohol related offenses= 1 game
Burglarly/violent crimes-kicked off
Drug related=1-3 games

Learning of his previous assault definitely makes me less of a fan. That assualt was far worse than taking a cell phone and $5 and was just as stupid. If he was brought here on a short leash, as he should have been, he should be gone. Otherwise, he needs to be put on notice that anything worse than an unpaid parking ticket will get him booted. Obviously if this was his first incident, no one would be talking about him being dismissed from the team.


...and honor is doing the right thing, even if it may cost you something. I believe CPR has honor.

My post was done with a little humor....but I am getting to the point where I almost want to win at all cost...

just frustrating.

Ok, so you are implying that the amount of "honor" a football program has is directly proportional to the severity of punishments/dismissals applied for a given crime. So in your opinion CPR will be less honorable if he suspends JL for 1-3 games than if he kicks him off the team? I disagree with you on this.
 
Keep Lattimer, give him the appropriate suspension! And be done with it!

I'd agree, and that is for both sides of this issue. This got polarizing quick.

Did you read my post? I understand that you are taking the perspective of "he didn't beat the **** out of the kid while he was a student, so it doesn't count against him here." I am taking the perspective of "he beat the **** out of a kid." Does your opinion of the punishment change if he beats the kid up after he's enrolled?

These topics are always like this and they will be in the future. There are two lines of thinking and most people fall on one of those sides. There isn't much of a grey area. Having said that, if I'm PR, I don't know what I do here with what we know.

I know they are, but wish people could be a little more rational (I know this is asking too much). Hopefully the coach has clearer information and can make a good decision.

Maybe we can debate bicycles versus cars on roads for something less polarizing. :jimlad:

Yes, I have read several of your posts. All of them clearly show that you believe the "honor" level of a football program is directly proportional to the severity of punishments handed down by the coaching staff to players who commit crimes. I don't personally believe that our coaching staff and FB program is any less "honorable" if CPR suspends JL for 1-3 games rather than kicking him off the team. That is what we disagree on.

My opinion of the punishment is irrelevant... what is relevant is the ISU disciplinary code, which clearly states that the disicipline code kicks in only for crimes committed while the student athlete is enrolled at ISU. Remember, earlier in this thread you were wondering about our code and whether we have a standard to apply to this type of situation? We do. Based on the code, problems are handled differently based on whether or not they were committed before or after the athlete was enrolled. Based on this, I suspect this will be treated more as a 1st offense than a 2nd offense, though I am sure the prior offense will factor into his punishment at least somewhat.

Can you please quote those posts in which I said I wanted him kicked off the team? Also, please quote me the post where I wondered about the code and standard to apply to the situation. Do you have me confused with someone else?

What we know right now is that Lattimer is a felon - plead guilty to a charge in Kansas. You are correct in that, by the letter of university policy, that this charge "doesn't matter" in that context. But in the context of life in general, he was very close to having the charge matter. And this needs to be taken into consideration.
