Two episodes in and it already has me rooting against him

Agree, so far he's the one that I hope fails the most.

It seems like this year, there is no player or person in the show that you want to root for. The team is far from likable.

2 episodes in I'm rooting for the injured guy who was the starting center. Then maybe that skinny linebacker who met with the teacher? He at least doesn't seem to have quite the ego. Also don't envy that QB coach having to deal with Malik..

Show should've stuck with East Mississippi. Is Buddy a jackass? Yeah, but he also coaches a powerhouse that has produced talented D1 athletes, convicts, and is always in talks for the national championship. Fitting they won the year Last Chance U left.

I'm 4 episodes in and a few thoughts:

1) I wonder who all has to agree to this filming? This can't really be good (other than some $) for anyone involved. The President of the school looks horrible. The coach is an absolute ***hole. Malik Henry would be un-signable after watching this. Guys academic shortcomings on full display. Who would benefit from this?

2) I've gone back and forth on the Coach. On one hand, as they make a point to say over and over again, there is a reason these dudes are JUCO. They could benefit from some discipline. However, the guy routinely goes WAAAAY over the line. He's like an abusive spouse at work. Breaking them down, convincing them they have no self worth and no one else would want them, and then making himself out as doing them some kind of favor for letting them play football for him. Also the way he treats those coaches, with the one dude saying he works for free? Absolutely crazy.

3) I do find myself rooting for a few of them. You're heart goes out to the center and that freshman linebacker. Read somewhere the freshman linebacker wound up in some legal trouble. Too bad.

I also really hope the QB coach gets a decent shot somewhere. Seems like his heart is in the right place and you have to respect someone grinding it out for no pay at a JUCO like that hoping for a bigger job.

4) Lastly, this English teacher is cracking me up. She is an English teacher, right? She's the one you can tell she knows the cameras are there. I don't recall my freshman English teacher Tony Robbins-ing me at every chance.

I think my favorite moment from the new season (so far) is the coach admitting on camera to not having watched much game tape of the opponent the night before the game...as he's sitting in a hot tub smoking a cigar. He then follows that up by saying it's OK because he's a "savant" and he can dissect opponents and make adjustments on the fly.

I get it's TV and it's edited and cut to make you see people and things a certain way but damn, guy. You just openly admitted to not having watched tape of your opponent. He has a very short career in front of him with that type of preparation or lack thereof.

The way he nearly botched the Garden City game with his terrible clock management was notable, too.

Not a likable crew so far, and the head coach leads the way. I suspect that the deeper I get into the season the worse it's going to get. You can't coach kids like that and expect sustainable results.

Maybe they wanted to and EMCC declined. I think they had gotten all the mileage they were going to get in exchange for letting cameras in.

I think that's why I'm a little torn on Malik. He definitely has a temper, but alot of it seems rooted in the fact his coach is an unprepared ***hole.

Yeah, but he had a temper prior to arriving in Independence. It looks (and again, editing makes us see what they want us to see) like he has anger and immaturity issues that existed well before all this. It'd be a shame if he can't overcome that stuff. You can see the talent.

I totally agree. I also can't fault someone from going back at that Coach. I'm sure you can only put up with so much of his ****.

Fair point. I would say the inmates are running the asylum but that would be redundant because everybody associated with the program - players and coaches - appears to be an inmate. No leadership.

Just finished episode 4 where they score last play of the game. Man, I felt embarrassed for the program and players. That game was a complete $hitshow.

At least Buddy down at EMCC knew he acted like a jacka$$. This dude is over the top.

I would say part of the reason why it is hard to find any likable characters is because this school is missing the academic advisor type role that EMCC had. The english teacher tries to fill that role but does not quite do it. I think that advisor was likable and help bring out some likable qualities in the players. This season is more about the coach and his cussing and drinking. I'm only 3 episodes in, but that is my take so far.

And the QB coach seemed like a nice guy, but clearly had no idea what he was doing.

I had to skip the parts with the English teacher after the first couple, she was acting so hard it hurt.
