Last Chance U - Netflix Documentary

Not far into the show, but I'll say this

- Malik is a non-coachable athlete who is in a system where he actually has a better football IQ than his own coach, but is own coach has to constantly be in control of everything and refuses to give a little leeway to a guy who actually knows what he is doing.

- Coach is a jackass. I have never witnessed someone on such a high horse. "Win this game for me," "look good on netflix when this comes out," and the constant references of the cameras show just what he is here for.

- I love that coaches around the league recognize that this team is extremely talented but poorly coached. I hate that he tells his players how everyone thinks he's a ****** coach to motivate them.

- That Texas Tech WR is an ass hat. He's so unbelievably quick and talented but just can't get his **** together.

Oh did you know the coach has 4 Cadillacs and a beach house in California? Not sure if you caught any one of the 8 times he mentioned that.

This team is total doucecanoes from top to bottom. Coach only days about 2-3 words a sentence when profanity is removed.

I hate the whole group and actually cheer against them.

I actually find myself rooting for most of them. Malik is about the only one I find unlikable. You can't help but feel bad for Bobby Bruce, hearing him talk about how he realizes he has zero future outside of football. The rest of them have their moments, but seem like decent kids. The kid that's going to Tennessee seems like he's alright.

I think the discussion with the kid that transferred from Michigan was somewhat telling. Basically, it sounds like there is a tug-and-pull between winning games and allowing kids a platform to showcase their talent. It sounds like they were promised that it was more about getting them on the field and in front of recruiters than it was winning. Then, all the sudden, you're riding the bench. I imagine it would be incredibly frustrating.

After watching the whole season I think the majority of the players seem like decent kids, even if they do dumb things or may stupid choices.

I agree that Malik Henry seems like an idiot though, how the hell did he get a scholarship to Florida State in the first place? That seems like the real mystery.

The season was a definite step down from the first two for me though.

Just to clarify, I’m not cheering against them in life, never want someone to do poorly, just prefer they lose games to shut them up.

Players come across as very entitled. Players seem to be like their coach and this one is a rearend.

Read this thread a little bit before I started to watch the new season. Based on that I was expecting it to be a lot worse than I've found so far.

The coach seems like more of a recruiter and really needs to surround himself with really good X's & O's guys. I think he has a far better chance of actually connecting with these guys than Buddy ever did.

The QB talked about problems with some depression and anxiety. That doesn't seem fake to me and it would help explain a lot. Doesn't seem like he knows how to handle it and I don't have any faith that any college football program is equipped to help him, much less one who didn't have a weight room at one point. His dumb decisions and acting out could be a result of that.

The QB coach is in over his head and to me it feels like a major problem.

**Caveat is I'm only through 2 episodes, so maybe it gets worse as it goes.

Why do coaches scream at players? The best bosses I've ever had are calm and work through problems, not screaming at people. Why are coaches different?

Sometimes you have to raise your voice. Prohm and CMC are pretty calm in general but their are times when it calls for it when you're coaching 18-22 year olds IMO

Yeah, there's an appropriate time and place for it. But what we're seeing from the Last Chance U coach goes beyond just screaming. He can't control his emotions. He's undisciplined and volatile, and his team's behavior reflects that. Wonder why your team keeps committing dumb penalties and shooting themselves in the foot? Look in the mirror. Attitude reflects leadership.

There are definitely a few guys I’m cheering for. 5th episode where the highlight some of these kids backgrounds really shows what they’ve been through.

not only does malik have some anxiety and depression problems, but I’m not sure he even wants to play football - seems a lot to me like football is his dad’s dream

Raising your voice works if you don't do it all of the time. This dude is just raging white noise.

I can't believe the dude actually asked them to win for him. I'd throw a game before I'd win for him.

The kid's football IQ seems pretty on point. He could be a coach if he didn't have a myriad of other issues.

agree completely. there’s no doubt he’s extremely talented and knows the game well

just seemed to me in that interview towards the end (can’t remember which episode) like he had very little desire to play. can’t remember exact words, but he made a comment about how too many people have invested too much time & money in him to quit
