Perhaps they'll find a few golf balls in the muck. I remember a guy who used to hit balls out of an upper story Friley window into the lake. Quite the feat.

Terrible to bring this up. In the Spring of 2007, during a Polar Bear Plunge event in Lake Laverne, the body of Abel Belanos was in the lake (body was found a day or two later).
The lake was angry that day, my friends.

I vaguely remember hearing about that. This would've been the year or two after that.

Good lord, that's a high risk deal. You miss hte window and you have a 100-cal bullet bouncing around your room at 100 mph.
It would take me a long, long time to come up with a comment that does more to cheapen the generosity of two people who, well before this gift, gave virtually their entire personal and professional lives to the university community.
One time I was walking by Lake Laverne and this guy ran past me real quick and jumped in. Two guys in suits were running after him. He tried to splash/swim across. They just ran to the other side and tackled him and then put handcuffs on him when he got out.

There was a river otter in there maybe back in 2022. Not sure how it got there.

Otters on campus take students by surprise
A couple of unlikely characters have recently made Iowa State University their temporary home. Two North American river otters mysteriously appeared on Lake LaVerne a few weeks ago and have been stealing attention from the lake’s winged tenants ever since.
As long as we are talking pedestrian bridges that make sense, how about one across LW on the east side of the Beech intersection.
No it was real. The guy really did get arrested for something. squad cars arrived a bit later.
The Curse of Oak Island team has requested doing a special show for the dredging...
