I had to look it up, too, but the NCAA allows college athletes to also be a professional athlete, as long as the sport in which they're a professional is not the sport for which they're awarded a scholarship. Russell Wilson had a $200k contract with the Rockies when he was a grad transfer at Wisconsin,

Fun Fact: Kyler Murray's uncle played in the majors, and was at the plate when Randy Johnson pegged a passing bird with a fastball.

Was just looking for this.

One strange night in Ames, Iowa probably still haunts him.

1. The guy is a pretty awesome quarterback who puts so much pressure on the D.

2. I don't care how much money he has earned in baseball. More power to him.

3. As businessperson, it seems to me that the A's have an asset to which they've guaranteed north of $4M and he's playing the most violent mainstream sport there is. Pro teams have clauses about waterskiing, snow skiing, riding motorcycles etc. so it surprises me that they'd be Ok with the violent collisions found in football. It just strikes me as shaky risk management.

Going back to the Moneyball days, I think maybe the A’s saw a market inefficiency. I think the

The thing about Murray is that he’s very likely going to be an elite defensive center fielder with his speed, arm, and instincts. And he’s going to have a very good mental makeup just by spending time as a college QB. So even if he puts up a 250/300/350 line he’s going to be an average big leaguer which isn’t a bad return for a 9 pick. The injury risk just doesn’t seem like that large of a risk compared to the risks you take when drafting a HS catcher or a 1B with a big raw power tool with a questionable hit tool.

That’s some fantastic trivia.

I’m glad we won’t see many more QBs like Kyler. As soon as you think the d-line made a great play, he escapes and picks up 5 to 10 yards....or maybe he throws to a receiver 15 yards down field. He was incredibly accurate and ran like a 4* running back. I was impressed. Hope he stays healthy, he is fun to watch.

Was that night not the beginning of his career’s demise? Didn’t win the heisman and fell out of the NFL

Won a Big 12 Title, Fiesta Bowl and went 11-1 with a bad defense, and is still in the NFL making millions holding a clipboard.

Didn't win the Heisman but beating out Robert Griffin is going to be tricky.

NCAA rules allow a player to have received money in a different sport and maintain eligibility. He’s a good athlete but he doesn’t want to take a hit. That will cost OU at some point.
Has this recently changed? I remember Jeremy Bloom being ruled ineligible to play for Colorado because he was considered a professional skiier

Okie state is looking pretty good right now.
West Virginia will be pretty tough too ..not sure if they quite measure up with OU but I don't think they are far behind.
I haven’t watched them yet but they don’t have the running QB like Murray. OU ran the zone read perfect today

He was smart enough to slide and not take hits. He never really got smacked which is good for him and the Sooners. It was annoying that he complained to refs when he did get tackled on routine type tackles.

Second coming of Seneca.

And, lets be honest, he probably wont ever play for the A's. He will probably get traded to another team at some point. Its what the A's do.

Didn't Chris Weinke sign a big baseball contract before going to FSU and winning the Heisman?
And Charlie Ward won a Heisman and went to play b-ball. FSU with some interesting QBs.
