KU HC David Beaty has been fired

Seriously who the **** would take that job? Guaranteed to be fired within 3 years. Saban couldn't win 6 games there. Beatty was making mild progress in a program that was so far below the bottom it isn't funny.

Mild progress, sure. But they were completely not competitive last year. This year they are not even really a young team and still are bad. They have a ridiculous TO margin and three wins against a weak ass schedule. They are bad. Yes, it's a bad job, but Mason and Mangino won there, so it can be done.

It's not surprising they would make a change. The team is horrible, I don't think the fan base was even that excited when they hired Beaty, and if you read the wide right natty light article from Friday interviewing the counterpart, they sound like they want Beaty hone. Plus with a new AD this summer, he probably wants to bring in his own guy.

Charlie Weis put them way behind the eight ball. I don't think anyone is advocating for him as a coach, but they have to show that they will give a coach a chance. He was their longest tenured coach since Mangino and he didn't even get 4 years.

I would think they would at least wait until season end, so they don't have a reputation for firing coaches mid-season (Weiss was fired mid-season, when Bowen took over as interim, right?)

I don't recall the actual amount, but they paid Turner Gill something like 2 million a year. Gill's contract made some sense since he was a HC at Buffalo previously.

Then they went out and paid Weis about 2.5 a year. After cutting bait with both paid Beaty only 800 K, which nowadays seems to be unheard of for a power 5 HC gig. Beaty did have a lot of incentives with something like 25 or 50K for each conference win. Based on the low pay I was quite suspect of the hire. Did they have to find chopped liver for a HC due to all their buyouts?

Reading the KU forums from time to time via presser transcripts, Beaty seemed to always have excuses like the gameplan was fine, they just didn't execute it. The impression I got of Beaty through that was he reminded me of Dan Hawkins. Far from an ideal leader for a football team.

Looking at a KU depth chart, appears they have at least 12 senior starters. A handful more SRs are 2nd string, and a lot of juniors in the 2-deep. They will return a decent amount of experience, but is that good thing?

I know this was said about us when Rhoads was fired (and obviously it worked out great for us hiring Campbell), but KU should look at hiring someone that runs the triple option. Try something different; you can't get any worse.

Well, he's 3/4 of the way through year 4. He's got an experienced team that starts 11 SRs and 7 JRs. They've got an unrepeatable and unsustainable TO margin. Yet here they are, still terrible. Less terrible, sure. I guess it bugs me because whether it was Mac or Rhoads the national view was "Who does ISU think they are? They should happy to have this coach and be 3-9."

I also think letting a guy trot out a dog crap team for 4 years might send a message to prospective coaches that you have no expectations. There's a line between having patience and not giving a ****. I think KUs close to the latter.

They should be happy with a guy that wants to be there and takes them to a bowl every four or five years.” It’s amazing to me that our base is already saying the same thing about others. I agree with you, but one thing I think you have to consider. They are in a far worse situation compared to the rest of the conference and P5, as far as facilities and recruiting and overall program, than when Campbell took over, more comparable to when Coach Mac took over here.
And even then our fan support was much better than what theirs is by far.

From what I read/have heard, Kansas didn't believe in him from the beginning. You're right, his teams have been bad. The program is a mess and it appears it's a systematic failure from the top.

Absolutely true. But that also doesn’t mean they should settle for someone that can’t win more than 3 or 4 games a year at max.

While I agree that their football team deserves more support, i can’t feel sorry for them. Kansas has national basketball titles. Bill Self does whatever the heck we wants and gets away with it..so the football team sucks? Sounds like karma for Kansas to me...
