This may have been discussed in previous threads, but my brother and I were thinking about making the trip from Ames to Manhattan when we play Kansas State. I was wondering if anyone is going, has been down there before, would suggest going, and what it is like. I've heard no alcohol. Is this true?

I'm going with some friends as well. I don't know much about a typical gameday in Manhattan. I do know that Aggieville is a great place to throw a few back.

Good trip to make. KSU fans are good for tailgaiting. VERY cheap tickets.

I think we will be going as well.

Well, then I'm curious as to what the students do down there. Do they tailgate, but conceal it? Do they go elsewhere? Do they not tailgate at all? If there is no tailgating by students, THAT should be against the law! :policeman:

Guys there are 2 other threads about this from the previous weeks......

Good tailgating... have to keep all alcohol in a dixie cup. Do not drink from the can. Keep everything in a cooler and keep it closed when cops around..

Don't cross streets with full dixie cups either.

KSU has great tailgating, not quite to ISU standards, but it is fun nonetheless. Alcohol topic has been covered already. Believe me, there is alcohol there just don't show it off. It is an easy road trip. KSU has pretty good fans too, so it's a fun game to go to.

Well, thanks for the updates. It's been much appreciated!

I didn't even know about the plastic cup rule.... after we lost to KSU 2 years ago we were leaving the stadium and a couple of KSU fans offered us some beers and we stood around drinking it from the can with them

That was post game though....

Tailgating was ok - fewer porta pottys and you had to walk to find them, but we were tailgating in a grass lot across from the stadium, so it had an ISU feel to it.

They had a cool pregame intro... making fun of us but it was funny none the less They had a video clip with scenes from Twister, putting Willie Wild Cat in as the guys chasing the Tornado... then they had a "Cyclone" (lets just say it is hard to stuff a Cyclone ) come running out onto the field being chased by Willie who tackled him.

Like I said obviously anti us, but it was funny. Oh yeah and we stopped at the book store and they had some free buttons (they were part of a weekly series) asking "We still want to know whats with the bird in the tornado?" We were ammused, and I still have one of those somewhere (Ammused enough to actually wear a piece of purple that day)

(actually that was right around halloween as well... and so I didn't actually drink after the game, since I was driving first and left shortly after the game to get back to Ames and hit up the bars since everyone was in costume that night - I think that was day lights savings rollover too so we got an extra hour)

I'll be there. It will be my first trip to Manhattan.

They are my least favorite team in the Big 12 because of their fans so I'm interested to see how it goes.

We're going, along with daughter and son-in-law (all of us ISU grads) who live in Manhattan. She works for K-State.

We went 2 years ago and had a blast. We stayed at some place in Topeka the night before, I think it was a Holliday Inn and they had a decent bar with a live band that was pretty good.

As for KSU, no alcohol but you can if you are smart. We bought a bunch of beer and packed them in coolers then put the coolers in a truck bed with a bed topper on it so they didn't see the 3 or 4 coolers we had. We saw random cars they opened trunks and took the beer out of so that might suck if you are one of those but there is plenty of booze at their tailgates as long as you keep it in a cup and don't act like an idiot. The cops will walk up and down the rows but not bother you if you act normal. They know what's in those plastic cups so don't tick them off else they'll call you on it.
