KState pregame thread

The online/youtube/podcast love for KSU in this game is starting to piss me off. And it’s all based around our WRs. If there is one position group that can be easily reworked in a single offseason it’s the WRs. Especially with an experienced QB.
Bringing in two proven successful transfers at the position as well as bringing an all conference player back from injury at the TE position certainly helps to soften the blow of losing two NFL players at WR.

I think the passing game will be fine.

Yep, feels like that happens quite often in media these days. All it takes is 1 "national" guy to say that ISU can't replace their now nfl receivers and that becomes every talking head's go to line about Iowa State.

Honestly though, based on how 2021 went when we had expectations, i think i would rather it play out this way. Truthfully, if X and Sowell are as advertised, it wont take more than a week or two for ISU to start getting hype anyway

Yes i know 2021 was 4 years ago, but those wounds haven't healed. Felt like one of the most hyped up offseason ever, and they fell on their face

This may come across as a hot take, but i think the passing game will be better than last year.

Brahmer is healthy, Burkle/Alexander will be studs. I doubt we have any one person over 800+ receiving yards, but it wouldnt shock me if Rocco throws for 4000-4500 yards, provided everyone stays healthy

I would say that's pretty hot. Not JLH hot, but pretty close.

Lose the corn and hay. Either have it be a cast tractor or a grain silo.
It's wheat. Kinda their thing. Corn and wheat are no-brainers for a rivalry called Farmageddon.

If you remember, the media attempted to make Iowa-Nebraska "Farmageddon" about 10 years ago. It's nice that they caught on to the real thing in Iowa State - Kansas State. It's become a legitimate rivalry with at least some intrigue nationally because both teams are usually good.

There's also a lot of consternation about our defense last season without the context that we lost pretty much the entire 2-deep at LB and had two starting safeties playing with one arm apiece.

Does anyone have a link for a fairly detailed KState roster breakdown? I know they had a lot of Portal additions, I’m curious as to how those integrated. Or, are integrated.

Higgins and Noel were such big-play receivers though. If you're spreading it out to TEs, you're not getting as many chunk plays. We need Rocco to be more efficient, not necessarily pass for more yards.

how many losses will you wait to resurect the rotter thread?

We may not need Rocco to pass for more yards…but that doesn’t mean he won’t.

Having five viable targets on the field at a time, instead of two or three, could make a significant different to oroductivity—and that same efficiency.

I really hope that isn't the case, because for this team to take the next step I truly believe it needs to be able to wear down defenses and salt games away with a consistent running game.

In addition, there are some potentially great QBs in this league right now. Those QBs can't hurt you while they are sitting on the bench watching 8+ minute ISU scoring drives. Also, star QBs often get impatient and try to do too much when they see game minutes slipping away and they haven't gotten the chance to make the impact like they are accustomed to. I think a lot of mistakes happen when it is midway though the second quarter and a QB is only working with their second possession. Patience is rarer than many think with star QBs.

Optimistic.

If we go down by two scores in the KSU game he will roll it out. I am guessing he has 2-3 versions he wants to get feedback on already.

On second thought, he rolls it after our first run for <5 yards.

let the line run up, the moneyline run up. step 3 profit.

I agree with this. I am cautiously optimistic that we can be just as good or better offensively but I do think people are undervaluing just how good Noel and Higgins were last year and how valuable those Chuck plays are on an offense.

Knowing you don’t have to slog out 9-10 play drives every possession is so important to an offense. At that point you are playing into what the defense wants. I am optimistic our new guys can provide that explosive ability.

I think of the Utah game. They couldn’t stay in front of Jayden. By the second half we just looked his way and got a 15 yd PI. The Baylor game had big chunk plays to both of them sparked the comeback.

It will be someone else who brings that thing up in the first game.

Someone in that 'I don't watch any other teams because when did sports become about money like this game being played overseas like has been done for decades to expand viewership but I swear ISU is the only team that doesn't come out and get up 28-0 right out of the gates every game' camp.

Sports are messy, football's super messy and the first football game can be extra messy, as can any game afterward.

No one said anything about the run game being diminished or ignored.

Both can kick it up a notch. Or two, and I’d be fine with that.
