Going to KC for a three day weekend. Going to catch a Royals game but aside from that don't have much planned. Besides the P & L and Kelly's what are some interesting/unique restaurants/pubs or events that we should check out?

I travel to KC quite a bit for work. The Negro League Museum is on my list of stuf to do when I am not chomping at the bit to get out of town. One of the art museums by the plaza has a Rodin exhibit. As someone who just visited Paris, this is appealing.

I've already heard so much about Oklahoma Joes that I'm going to have to put it on the list but have never heard of Lidia's.

A bit pricey but well worth the food. Usually when I go home for Christmas and Easter my parents take me there. Best buy is Pasta Trio (Salad, 3 unlimited pastas and a dessert for $30 or you can without the salad and dessert for $20). They have 4 restaurants in Italy, NYC, Pittsburgh and KC.

Second the WWI museum. Went there in the 8th grade for a field trip and it was awesome. Get to see how it was to walk through trenches and see some pretty cool artifacts.

Boulevard Brewery tour is decent. You can check out their site and get a reserved spot for a saturday tour. They tend to fill up pretty quickly.

Eggtc is a good breakfast joint in the south plaza area.

Corner cafe for breakfast in Liberty or the original in Riverside is so good. French toast, biscuits and gravy. Along the heart-clogging route, Strouds is a jewel. Family style serving.

Would add Steamboat Arabia museum and Harry Truman Presidential Library as things to do. For a more complete list check out our blog post on the Kansas City area (although a couple of places have closed since we posted this in 2008).

Lidia's and Oklahoma Joes are both good. If you like pizza, I really liked D'Bronx pizza although it's hard to get in the place.

We are planning to go over Memorial Day Weekend. We are going to hit up Legends out in Lenexa, WWI meusium, and find some minigolf...maybe a massage.

We always stay at the Embassy near Westport because they have free shuttle to the plaza. Also is walking distance to the Westport bars....have to visit Kellys!

FYI, the Legends is in KC, KS, about 15 miles north of Lenexa.

Oklahoma Joe's - love the Z-Man but the Carolina with Spicy Slaw is better. (Who am I to judge? They both rock!)

Also, if you are making any other plans to come down to KC this summer, the weekend of June 8th (Saturday) has to be one of them. "Cy's Day at the K" - (Iowa State Day/Tailgate at the Royals game is happening.) Big alumni/fan/family weekend leading to Cy throwing out the first pitch for the ISUAA Alumni Club of KC. *If we can't get Hoiberg or Rhoads to throw out the first pitch of course. It's also "retro" night for the Royals as they will be wearing their powder-blue old school unis - and the Astros are wearing their "old school" throwbacks as well. The Royals Administration have encouraged ISUers to wear Old School Iowa State Gear as well. Should be cool!

Should be a great time! Gotta love the tailgate atmosphere for Iowa Staters! A nice new summer tradition for ALL Cyclone fans!

RSVP Deadline:
Thursday, May 30th 2013
