1. Not a lot of people care about the status of KU football.

This, to me, is at the heart of KU's football issues. It's one thing for a team or program to be bad. We all know how that goes. But no matter how bad it got the last few years under Rhoads, fan interest didn't waver all that much. A big thing Campbell had going for him when he arrived was that the fans were starved for a winner. He knew he had the fan support. At KU, nobody gives a ****. It's tough when you can't even sell things like hope and a process to the fans, because there are no fans.

I think Mangino would've always ended badly for the Jayhawks, one way or the other. The final nail was Charlie Weis coming in after Gill got the quick hook and taking a couple mil to run off a third of the team and stand around doing absolutely nothing but collecting his checks.

The AD thought a big name was all he needed to resurrect the program, but Chuck straight up stole their money. The AD that hired him is still there. I wonder if they have any real base of backers to pull off that $300 million renovation of Memorial. There can't be a lot of confidence from the football boosters in the administration after they've rabbit holed so much money in the past few years and gotten nothing but negative results.

Huh? Didn't he teach them how to properly celebrate after a win? I could swear there was a video of this. That's not doing nothing. :p

I get the impression from the KU fanbase that Beaty might get another year, before they look elsewhere. Perhaps the huge back to back buy-outs for Gill and Weiss are having an affect. This will all negatively impact KU as they have basically lost half a generation worth of KU fans/season ticket holders/etc.

Some are okay with keeping Beaty if they fire the DC. He does have a really good recruiting class right now, I think that's the other part. I could see keeping him if he could keep that class in tact until signing day, then firing him after next year to give the next coach a bit more of a head start.

TCU opened as 37.5 point favorites for this weekend's game.

I love Iowa State football and I may be the only one that thinks this, but that was the most boring football game I've witnessed as a Cyclone fan just because it felt like I was watching a practice between our first string and our student-managers.

Totally agree. I had the Tech/WVU game going on my phone at the same time as sitting through the snoozefest in Ames.

ISU did have some really bad seasons at the end of the Walden era. The program was pretty much a train wreck and the facilities were worse.

Some people get on Pollard for the football coaches he has hired, at least they didn't bottom he program out, like the last 3 KU coaches have.

The KU fans I talk to admit firing Mangino was a huge mistake, but the cocktail set at KU just found him embarrassing. The posh set couldn't stand that he eschewed the donor functions and was generally a boor (or boar?) in public, but the more level-headed ones know his manufactured ouster was a serious mistake, one they are still paying for.

We saw first hand what kind of person he is. He was going to wreck that program sooner than later. Keeping him around a few years may have stopped them from hiring Charlie, maybe the worse hire in the history of P5 college football. They paid out a pile of money for a coach that didn't want to be there, wanted to cash out and retire, and was not a good coach or program builder.

There are KU football fans, but it's way too easy for them to get "distracted" by the Chiefs, Royals, Sporting KC and the mere talk about the upcoming basketball season. I'm not sure what kind of coach it will take to right that program again, but he'll have to do it quickly. They are not going to get steadily increasing interest from fans, so it will have to get built almost entirely on bandwagon fans.

It's too easy for them to just wait a few months so they can all get their superiority complex cranked up.

They need someone with wisdom, like Solich, to come in there and do the right things. They are presently near scholarship limits, so that is not a valid excuse.

Ku's running an offensive system built for oSu. Hell, TxT can't win consistently with it. Mike Leach has never won a trophy with it. Yet, Ku's coaches believe they can.

Their situation just makes me shake my head yet laugh at the same time. Ku sucking in football is just and due karma. And the longer they have to swallow it the better. EMAW!

Everyone wants Bowen gone. His defense is horrid.

KU's issue is similar to what we had to deal with CPR. CPR loved Iowa State and all about passion for Cyclone football, but passion just wasn't winning games and finally realized it was time for CPR to go. KU likes Beaty because he is all about Jayhawk pride, but when will they realize that's just not enough?

When you play everyone in your conference, it is not a bad thing to have 1 or 2 schools that are bad.. Just happy for once that ISU does not appear to be the favorite to be scheduled for homecoming #Progress.

TCU fans dont fill their own stadium...I doubt they would travel to Lawrence.
It'd be an interesting bet...

More fans in Lawrence;

TCU (don't fill their own little stadium but possible big 12 champs)?
KU (historically bad football team)?

I had to catch myself getting bored...it's like I'm used to seeing success with ISU football or something, and reality is it's only been 2 games where I was really impressed with the team. Akron and UNI were fine, but it looks like a lot has improved since then.

Repeating, but it's fun to anticipate the rest of the season halfway though.
