Kansas State Numbers

Chris kleman is a good coach, no doubt there. There are obstacles that 1AA coaches have going 1A, especially power 5. The standards that students need to meet are elevated, who you have been recruiting may not be to that level so you need to find many new kids. You can’t split schollys so if you have some misses you didn’t hurt yourself as much. He also didn’t step into a team that won nattys right before him.

We lost our starting QB two years ago.
True and good point. Good thing we didn't this year. I forgot about losing 2 starting linebackers for 2 straight games. Were they back yesterday at full strength? Imagine no Purdy, and then no Rose and Vance. I would give Campbell a pass if that happened. Who knows maybe Dekkers is better???? Breaks go your way sometimes and not others.

My biggest concern this year was QB since 2 and 3 are true freshman. Purdy did it but that was basically the exception to the rule for non top 5 programs. Oddly I wasn’t as nervous when Kempt went down since Noland was there, that was a mistake on my part.

We kicked KState’s a$s up between their ears this year.

We kicked WVU’s a$s up between their ears this year.

Both Klieman and Neal Brown are fine coaches, and it’s going to be tough to keep doing that in the years down the road, as they get settled in.

I think Chris Klieman is a good coach. I think he's a great fit at Kansas State. Certainly, 2 seasons, with one being in a pandemic, is not enough to evaluate a coach. K-State should and will be patient.

HOWEVER, I think it's important to look deeper than the narrative that somebody is great just because they receive a contract extension.

These are the FACTS:
1) The only coach to win consistently at K-State is Bill Snyder.
2) Both Ron Prince AND Chris Klieman followed Bill Snyder (that's hard to do when comparing coaches at the same school).
3) K-State fans have an OVERWHELMINGLY negative opinion of Ron Prince's tenure.

Through their first 23 games as the head coach at K-State....

RON PRINCE
12-11 record
Best win = #4 Texas

CHRIS KLIEMAN
12-11 record
Best win = #3 Oklahoma
Come to think of it, this post is amazingly like the one comparing Paul Rhoads’ and CMC’s W/L records back at the start of the season.

Or maybe I should have said “embarrassingly like”.

Didn't they have an absolute ton of guys transfer out this year too? That may be a wrong fit of player/culture he's trying to build. That will hurt short term but allows him to get guys in that buy in to what he's teaching.

I think he is a good coach, but the transfers are more than a little concerning, especially the guys that were starters.

Thompson was a huge loss for them but Howard is not a Big 12 QB, so that part is on the coach. I don't follow them close enough to know what the situation in their QB room is, but realistically it is probably like ISU where someone transferred out leaving just freshman. ) I like Dekkers, but the drop off from Purdy to him is probably scary.)

Once Dekkers and Bouman had about half the season under their belt—the same as Brock did—I wasn’t nervous any longer.

Klieman is a good fit there and a fine coach. KSU should know the importance of fit and stability better than anyone.

I think that’s actually a fear of KState fans. Apparently he’s pretty brash and they’re afraid that he’s running good players out and hasn’t shown he can recruit good ones in.
Sounds like a good fit at ToE...

.........One also must weigh that they have TWICE as many players in the transfer portal as any other Big 12 school.

I’m fascinated to see if their fan base can be patient.

This has to be the most concerning development of the past year for purple kitten fans. It shows that the K-State staff has missed on a number players that didn't 'fit'. If these recruiting misses continue, Klieman will have average teams, at best.

Kleiman's problem is probably his OC...

KSU will be fine. They got slammed with covid cases and their starting quarterback got injured.

It’s getting weird. We’re legit better than them. I haven’t thought about them all year long. It’s weird that people are constantly bringing them up.
I will look at their score just to see who won and that is about the most I will go out of my way with them. We have passed them, time to forget about them and develop an OU rivalry.

Oh, I won’t mind kicking their ass next year too.

I just don’t see any reason to constantly bring them up 51 weeks a year.

It's too bad because I could be convinced to like Kansas State in general. But a certain poster on this board has made me hate them with the fire of a thousand suns.
