NFL: Kansas City Chiefs Thread

From my understanding what Mahomes and Reid are so upset about is the offense gets warnings from the refs if guys are lining up offsides. As Mahomes said, no one has ever called it on the Chiefs since he has been a QB. Even Cheffers mentioned they usually warn guys but then went on to say that Toney's was so bad they didn't get a warning. SO it is more like hey you don't ever call this, you give warnings and now all of the sudden at the end of this game you call it? Of course it was a penalty but its about expectations on past actions from refs.

It is also frustrating because they missed Miller being offsides.

They also missed a PI when Rice caught a pass. It didn't matter because he caught it but they Bills CB was draped over Rice before the ball got there. I think overall this year the officiating in the NFL has been really poor.

I agree the Chiefs need to own the Toney offsides thing. He was in the wrong. Once Reid and Mahomes see the video evidence, they should agree.
Last week's PI in GB was more obvious than a floating turd in a punch bowl. That does not surprise me that GB got that call. They get calls every year at Lambeau that give them a W, when they should have an L.
Maybe these things are cumulative, and the Chiefs are getting tired of one set of rules for them, and another for their opponents.

There was no question the Green Bay game was obviously steered in their direction.

The obvious no catch by the Bills player, that cost KC a timeout on review, that was huge.

Hard to doubt the league would prefer another team besides KC to win it this year.

And they definitely want Allen and the Bills in the playoffs.

Yeah that was not a catch by the Bills. It only looks like a catch if you slow it down look at one moment in time.

I think the point is why the refs miss an obvious, obvious DPI call last week, but a toe on the line has to be called.

Mahomes is right. Refs just suck.
Stop looking at the line, look at the ball. Oh, you can't because he is lined up so far off side his helmet blocks view of the ball. This wasn't a toe on the line situation he was legitimately a foot and a half offside. Remember the full length of the ball is the neutral zone and his toes were completely past the ball.

Mahomes is complaining about the refs making that call in his presser as well. Says "let the players determine the games".
At the same time, he would be upset if it was a D-lineman lined up that far off side and they let it go because it was late in the game and they should let the players determine the games.

You mean how the Chiefs tend to get more favorable calls than most other teams? They extend extra protection to Mahomes because he is the face of the league at this moment. Prime example is the late hit penalty from last weeks game where the defender him Pat while he was still in bounds.

And there was Jawaan Taylor constantly lining up in the backfield until half the league had to beg the refs to actually do something about it.

On top of that, Spagnuolo has coached one of the most aggressive secondaries in the league over the last few years. The Chiefs get away with a ton of excess contact against receivers. I don't know how they dont get called for illegal contact/holding more often.

Schedule lightens up the last four weeks. Can still finish 12-5.

At Patriots. They're so bad.
Vs Raiders. They literally couldn't score yesterday.
Vs Bengals. Much more winnable without Burrow.
At Chargers. Herbert likely done for year.

The late hit was a bad call. Lots of Quarterbacks get favorable calls that's just the way the NFL has decided to treat hits on Quarterbacks its not just a mahomes thing still I agree though that was a weak call last Sunday

Jawaan Taylor played 4 years in Jacksonville and never had a big penalty problem. Suddenly he's most penalized guy in league after not even a season with the Chiefs. Many are legitimate but acting like Chiefs have been getting away with him committing all these penalties is furthest thing from truth. It amounted to 1 opening game. I think this complaint would be better directed at Jacksonville and I'll share it with you because we're now on the hook for a big contract. Doubt he gets a 1/4th of what he did had NFL made this a priority prior to him coming to Kansas City

The WR lined up offsides and got called for a penalty. It was obvious and the correct call. The whining about it is stupid.
Fully agree. That gets called 100% of the time on defense. Just because it isn't called often on offense, doesn't mean it isn't still a penalty. While you typically see the WR get a heads up, he was far enough that it was blocking the view of the ball from the sideline and that's more than enough for a penalty.

I don't think anyone disputes he was offsides though. Chiefs are saying that is never called. It is a consistency thing. If you never call it and always just give warnings, why call it now? So the rule has effectively been eliminated because of the way refs treat it. I mean, Toney is an idiot for being in the spot if could be called but I totally get the Chiefs complaint and I am going to guess you don't see refs call this anymore this season on anyone and do what they usually do, give warnings.
Think it would have been different too if the refs hadn't been making bad calls or non calls all day in the game. NFL officiating is really bad this year.

Personally, I think it's the degree to which he's in the neutral zone. It wasn't just his helmet or toe straddling the line, he was clearly offsides enough to block the view from the sideline and that should get called every time, regardless of if it is or isn't.

It's never called because most WR's aren't dumb enough to line up that far offsides!!!!!!!

I bet you could look through all of last seasons games and not see 1 WR lined up that far offsides. That's how blatant it was.

That is the refs explanation but then isn't that weird. Refs are then selectively enforcing it depending on what their belief on what is too far offsides to not give a warning and call it?

They called it because Toney never once looked to the ref to check if he was good. Had he done that he wouldve gotten his warning. Since he didn’t look to the ref he got called.

The Chiefs complaints just sound stupid, your players should be smart enough to check before every play especially at times like that.

That doesn't seem to be the case though. It seems like what is happening is guys get warnings if they are offsides. If you are operating with the expectation game in and game out, year in and year out, I have no problem with them calling a penalty on a violation but I can see the beef. Why always give warnings and then don't on one play?

But that is not what is being said. They are saying guys will line up offsides and the refs won't call a penalty and instead will warn them after the play and tell them to watch where they are lining up.
