NFL: Kansas City Chiefs Thread

Below average first half, but great halftime adjustments on both sides of the ball. We will have our work cutout for everyone next week at Buffalo. Going to need that 2nd half effort and results the entire game.

Next tree games are brutal. At Buffalo. Bye. At Denver. Home vs Indy.
Feels like 2 of 3 or sweep is necessary. Assuming the loss isn’t to Denver.

The trade deadline is Monday, how about the Chiefs look to the Jets and offer a 2nd and 3rd pick to get Hall and McDonald from the Jets. I know it sounds crazy, but the chiefs have Kelsey's money coming off the books after the season, will have to sign McDuffy to an extension, but should have money available

Getting Hall solves our RB position and being from Kansas, he might be willing to take less to resign with the Chiefs after the season. Getting McDonald gives the Chiefs a young speed rusher from the outside, which has been a need for years. I get we would be giving up a lot, but as late as we are drafting, you are going to have to over pay to bring in quality players.

No way they can afford to give up premium draft picks that will be cost-controlled players. They are already $30 million over the estimated cap for next year. They are going to have to completely redo Mahomes' contract to have any room to do anything.

Also, Chris Jones' contract is looking like an absolute albatross right now. Guy looks gassed half the time anymore, even early in games. Even with the presumed release of Jawaan Taylor, Veach is going to have to do some serious work in the offseason to free up money for McDuffie.

Paying a premium for a RB just isn't in the cards with the way the roster is constructed.

Jones, I believe, has played the 11th most snaps of anyone at his position this season. If anything, KC needs another interior D-lineman to give him a break.

ONL was helping with that, but now he is hurt. Bringing back Mike Pennel will help, but he's 34, I believe. They need a serious youth and talent infusion on the D-line. Another reason not to trade away 2nd or 3rd round picks, especially for a RB. They need to see if there is a decent interior D-lineman on a bad team out there that might be available for a 4th.

You cut Taylor at the end of the year and move Moore over to that spot, rework Mahomes and Jones's contract to free up money. The eagles have been playing the sign them to large contracts and pay out a lot in bonuses for the past 5 years and they can make it work. No reason the Chiefs can't do the same.

That only works for so long and the bill always comes due.

True, but the dollars down the line are worth less than dollars today. After they get past next year, right now they go from 30 million in the hole to 73 million for cap space. Plus the cap number is always increasing, so that 73 million will be closer to 100 million by then.
You are in a win now mode, Mahomes is still young enough to play for another 10 years, there is no reason that they cannot trade away picks now to win this season. McDonald is still under his rookie contract so he is going to be fairly cheap right now, and we need another rush end, which he would provide. If Hall doesn't work out you let him walk at the end of the year. If you don't want to give up all the draft capital for 26, move one of the picks to 2027 draft.
