JTS Improvements - Want More

Why would JP be doing anything with Wrigley?

Wrigley adding a small patch of grass outside the stadium isn’t comparable. But it does support the argument you don’t need the hillsides to have a place favorable to families.
It was dumb to say that they would have to take out bleachers seats in Wrigley for it to be comparable since the hillsides they were talking about have never had seats on them. If he would have said the grass would have had to have been inside the stadium to be comparable I wouldn't have questioned what he said.

Frankly, I don't understand the quibbling over grass hillsides.

We are getting a very nice new facility, as well as a stadium upgrade. If you think about the improvements in JTS in just the last ten years alone, having grass hillsides or not is way down the list in my mind.

Lol. Don’t pedantic fool. Guess what putting grass seating inside Wrigley entails? You wouldn’t have questioned if you read his post correctly. His entire point was that the plaza needs to be inside seating to be comparable. I’m not sure how you missed that, but it happens.

He was completely correct that it’s poor reasoning to think adding a grass plaza outside of Wrigley is an example that supports keeping hillside seats in JTS. Not comparable, and actually is an example of why hillside seating isn’t needed to have a family friendly experience.

Wow, this thread is in danger of being lost. May need to start a new one in order to focus on the actual JTS project.
You might want to reread the “want more improvements” part of the thread title.

Some people (including me) are saying that they’d like to see the NEZ truly bowled in one day. Others are making the counterpoint that the hillsides are indispensable.

If we’re talking about a larger press box with more luxury boxes vs some day having a much greater seating capacity, I’m hoping that the answer is—the program advances far enough that we have the demand for both.

The difference is Gallagher Way (the grassy area adjacent to Wrigley) is not inside the stadium. If they replaced some bleacher seats with a grass seating area, then it would be apples to apples.
Gallagher Way would be like making the new entrance/plaza where the Olsen Building was all grass, then having that sectioned off for ticket holders during games.

Agreed. I never said that it was in the stadium or that they had to remove seating to put it in. What I said was that the hillsides serve a similar purpose. Personally, I would love to see the NEZ bowled in, a giant press box expansion AND something like Gallagher Way. But I don't see the NEZ as a bigger priority at the moment.

The future expansion of JTS is a no brainer from this designers opinion. The lines of the PC were developed to mimic Jacobson. Balancing that with a sister building should be a design objective. First priority, however, are sky boxes / press boxes with the same lines on both sides of the stadium. Then lower tier seating to complete the NEZ and bowl (forget 2nd level seating as long as Jacobson is there). Then better grounds around the stadium. The RV park with the bridge is an incredible idea. Building the community plaza is the icing on the cake. The later design (ie off Center drive) is a much better solution. Completing all these will make Iowa State one of the premier stops in the entire nation. I'm so proud of the vision and an AD with $$$ sense to make this happen.

I read the thread title and the actual first post:

"Is there more released other than the hand full of renderings from last November? I want to see site plans, floor plans, elevations and even more renderings, please!"

Like the OP, I am very interested in official news. Less interested in our opinions about other things.

The part that you are refusing to acknowledge is that removing seats in Wrigley would reduce the seating capacity in Wrigley while keeping the hillsides does not reduce the seating capacity in JTS. That is a serious difference so it is not "apples to apples" as was suggested.

It would look great, I agree. How much would it cost? If the SPC cost around $60 million, wouldn't the addition to the stadium be upwards o $100 million, then with all the work that may be needed to change the concourse to accommodate the addition? I hope that someday there will be demand for that very addition.
Just keep winning!!

They had steam rollers packing it down. I'd be shocked it's temporary. My guess is drainage, like what was mentioned above. That would also explain the gravel around the base of the retaining walls and near where the tunnel extension will be.
Looks like whatever it’s for eventually, they’re using the graveled area as a staging area now.

Yeah, after reading some of the other comments and watching what's going on I am more than willing to admit my own negligence in the field of construction.

I’m certainly not any kind of designer, but considering how the Jacobson is about to be masked by the outer pedestrian ring, I’m not sure how much mimicking they were doing.

Frankly, I’m okay with the idea of the Jacobson one day going the way of the Olsen.
