Regarding the Albaugh plaza, I never understood why they put rock down in a high traffic area that is one of your grand entrances to the stadium. Why not use red brick as a border or at least stamped colored concrete. I feel the same way about the islands in the new parking lots.
Stamped concrete is awesome looking.... but very slippery with rain or snow on it. Would be a potential walking hazard

Did they copy LAX when the dropped it there?
I honestly have no idea what the point of that area is. Nor do I know what the UFO thing is supposed to be.

I do wonder if it is going to be the new tent alley, I dont think people like the one back by Hilton. And I think that area they are using is tentative planed for the Hotel.

I dont ever remember what the area was originally planned for, but it just seems like a wasted space, and because it is off center to the SEZ it always looks weird. Kind of a waste of space in its current form. Just leaving it as parking would have been better.

They should have run tile where the ravine runs through the new parking lots, fill with dirt and make it a green space for the athletic departments tents during football season. It would then connect Cytown with the Alumni Building.

Yes - 100%!!!

Such a missed opportunity to have an open drain slough right at the doorstep of a "showcase" building that hosts many events year-round

While I agree it would have been nicer, the problem is the ravine handles way more water than a tile would. Storm drains and tile etc just dont handle the amount of water out of these vast parking lots that ditches/ravines and retention areas do.

I do agree it would have been nice, but my guess is if they were to fill it n they would have expanded parking lots rather than make it green space, because of the demand.

Not that what you are saying wouldnt be nice, and I also would prefer that, I just dont think it would work, at least for what they are using it for.

I can tell you from someone with first hand knowledge, the project was pulled only half done partly for budget reasons. I can also tell you, I don’t bring up in front of him anymore when we are up there because he just gets frustrated on what the finished project was supposed to look like, and how it ended.

Originally it was going to have a large water feature but that got rejected when they couldn’t decide who would pay for the upkeep. Especially every two years when Hok fans would use it for an outside toilet.

The latter can be ameliorated so moly by tethering a couple of sheep over by Ioway Creek.

Or having the Iowa band direct traffic for Hawk fan vehicles.

Wake Forest is also looking to build an entertainment district next to the stadium.

Hope we get some more updates on Cytown soon.

Does Jamie and ISU get royalties for these other schools ripping us off?

Looks like, after doing some work (including adding a sidewal) in the north end of the CyTown dirt strip, they resprsyed it. Must be settling in.

Did a little earthwork around the culverts at the very west of the waterway, I’m curious to see how they touch that up.

Aside from adding trees, the only thing left appears to be adding some kybos to A3.

You’d think that they could at least move some over from the other lots. I mean, who wants to see @Messi get messy?

The only reason I’d expect them to sod the waterways would be to help control erosion the first year in the fall/soring rainy season.

Especially since they don’t appear to be watering that at all. But…maybe the existing seed will be enough come Spring.
