JStanz article

We need a program identity.

But equally important we need a return to fundamentals. We have to defend dribble penetration. We have to rebound. We have to attack the basket with physicality.

Finesse, jumpshooting teams don't win consistently on the road.

Or in general.

Nate Oats will pull you if you take a long jump shot. Fred was adamant about long jumpers being the worst shot in basketball. Prohm applauds his guys.
It's more about the look and how good of a shooter you are. From the games I've watched this season, lately we tend to be creating better looks, but shots are not falling. Not sure what the cure is there. Maybe more Naz like confidence.

Shots aren’t falling because we truly only have a couple good shooters. And I know that JCL is a good shooter but he settles for so many tough jump shots when he could get all the way to the rim. Same with Johnson. I also don’t know if I’ve seen a player shoot more with his feet on the 3 point line than JCL has this year lol.

I’m not saying the shot should be completely removed from player’s arsenals, but when you beat a guy and they’re behind you, play a two on one game from there by trying to get all the way to the rim and draw help. Then you can either dump it to your big, or you can try and draw a foul.

A big reason we haven’t won some of these close games is because we don’t get other teams in foul trouble and we don’t get to go to the line late in the game for points. We are not aggressive at all (outside of Bolton) and it’s a reason why we’re one of the worst teams in FT attempts in the nation.

Meant to post the article myself. Got caught up working on something around the house and forgot. Appreciate you guys for getting it here.
You weren't doing housework, you were in your DeLorean to snap that picture for you article on December 2nd, 2021. Looks like Prohm will still be the head coach next year.;)

I would go even further, in that we need to use the open and next available scholarship on post players. We need a big bodied post who can score in the paint, rebound and throw his weight around.

Then we need an Ejim/ Hogue/Nadar post who can play above the rim, rebound and make an occasional 3.

Everything is contingent on off-season attrition, but we are loaded with perimeter players who at some point have to produce- we have tons of redundancy among our perimeter players.

PG- Hunter with Bolton or Walker filling in for 5-10mpg.
WG- Bolton, Harris, Walker, Nunn, Jackson
SF- Hinson, Johnson, Dubar
PF- Foster, Hinson, Blackwell
C- Conditt, Recruit
God help us if Conditt is a starter at the 5 and not Foster.

I AGREE with you Prohm needs to GO, but Jamie might just bite the bullet and bring Prohm back for another year or two....Lets say Jamie lets Prohm come back next year and Steve goes 500 in the Conference.....Then Jamie will get to keep his favored son, so to speak....

LET ME TELL YOU GUYS...IF PROHM WAS AT ANY OTHER SCHOOL HE WOULD BE FIRED ASAP!!

Have some journalistic integrity and provide some substance as to why you think Fred coming back is unrealistic... people have been beating around the bush for the last 6 years. At this point, it just looks like there's a bunch of people still butt-hurt he left is the only reason Fred wouldn't come back.
Here's why I think it is unrealistic...I don't think Pollard is going make one of the dumbest financial decisions in the history of the planet and pay NU $10,250,000 for the privilege of hiring a coach who has won 5 conference games and finished in last place over the last two years.

Throwing that kind of money around would be the most Un-Pollard thing ever. I'd be absolutely shocked to see it.

New identity for Iowa State Basketball - Rebounding

Very similar to how ISU football needed an identity when CMC was hired. Run the ball and control the line of scrimmage (like Synder's Cats did for years) AND ITS WORKING

That's a valid argument although Stansbury seems to be suggesting other reasons. I would like to know what those reasons are rather than getting this continuous "haha, not gonna happen" response every time Fred is mentioned as a candidate. Like do Fred and JP not get along? Is Fred upset they closed the Taco Time?

What I saw of Foster this year was the prototypical stretch 4. If ISU is going to leverage his unique talents, it is going to be as a kid who is not bogged down in the paint.

Right now Conditt is the only other post on our roster, so therefore he is my starting 5. I understand Conditt's performance has underwhelmed Cyclone fans over the last 2 years. But George played solid basketball over the last month. I am also hopeful a new coaching staff can lift George's game.

I started my post by saying our priority 1 in recruiting this spring should be a pure low post player, because George has been inconsistent. We should be able to find a mature post player in the transfer portal or JUCO.

Getting back to Foster. The one observation I heard from basketball people who watched Foster play AAU and HS basketball was that he was a finesse post. That doesn't sound like a ringing endorsement for a kid to be banging in the paint and play center as a Big12 player. So instead of putting Foster in a position where his weaknesses are highlighted, play him at the 4 where is strengths are highlighted.

IMO that also plays Hinson at his optimal position SF.

The cure to better looks, is less dribbling and more ball movement. We have confident shooters, just not guys who are encouraged to make the extra pass(es) to get the easy shot vs. the off balance or contested shot.

A lot of times I get the impression our guys decide it is their turn to shoot before the ball passes half court!!

I was really confused about what you were trying to say with the video you posted the first time, but this ICONIC scene makes much more sense. Hopefully, none of the guys piling into that shower had fungus on their shower shoes before winning 20 games in the show.
