Jordan Railey

You drew comparisons of Homan to Railey in attempt to marginalize the latest incident. You clearly don`t like getting called out for your immature response, but I really don`t care.

Your response that drinking while playing slow pitch softball is "moral degradation" is just plain ********. Any man who considers a college kid drinking while playing slow pitch softball to be some terrible offense is obviously a pathetically boring and uptight person. Take your puritanical BS back to the 1600's and burn some witches.

The fact that he took a swing at one of his teammates on Welch (and exposed his teammate by getting into trouble by starting a fight with him) is a much bigger deal than a disorderly conduct ticket, in my opinion.

A stupid mistake is one thing, a bad teammate is another.

Man, I do not get it with this kid. In high school, he was pretty straight-arrow. You never heard about anything bad with him, unlike some of the other players in his league. It appears maybe he is just a kid that should not have gone to college too far away from home or something. Very disappointing.

It could be, but might not be.

Sometimes friends get hammered and belligerent and fight or wrestle around. Everyone sobers up, and says they're "sorry," it was stupid". Then they bro hug it out.

Also: "dude, why were we fighting last night?"...."I can't remember"

He probably never had a beer in college and he doesn't know how to handle it without making a complete fool of himself.

Disorderly Conduct.

From Wiki:

He needs to be smarter. But just wondering, are the cops in Ames decent or can they be jerks? Looking to bust jocks.

Most campus cops are douchebags trying to be tough guys. Probably threw him around in hand cuffs.

Who do you think you are - trying to tell teammates how to be teammates? Teammates get in fights all the time. It's part of being on a team. If a player wants to punch another player, it is none of your business to tell him if he is right or wrong. Get off your moral high horse and let them be teammates!

Sound familiar?

By the way, if he would have followed Clonestar12's moral code, he wouldn't have been an underage drunk and wouldn't have taken a swing at one of his teammates and we wouldn't be having this discussion.

I really hope that this did not happen. Swinging at your teammate is not a good thing. Neither is swinging at anybody, really, but in my book, it's worse when it's a teammate or friend. Only official thing I have seen is that he took a swing at someone and wouldn't stop walking when the cops tried to talk to him.

Sounds like he needs to be done with drinking for a while.

So let me get this straight, some people on here want to kick a kid off a team for disorderly conduct but yet are fine with taking transfers who have been kicked off their team or gotten in trouble with the law? Is it just because he wasn't very good last year?

I don't get it.

That's rich. A man who equates playing a slow pitch softball game after drinking to "moral degradation" telling others to grow up? Your belief that anyone who ever drinks to have a good time is "morally degraded" is overly simplistic and childish, and is representative of a black and white view of the world and morality that most intelligent people grow out of once they gain some life experience.

Having a couple beers before a softball game is a personal choice, and it hurts no one. Not everyone walks around with a stick up their butt and believes that anyone who ever has a good time has "moral degradation."

Heck, I thought softball was for drinking. At least that is what we did until I was 25

I am thinking of doing a poll. As far as Ames Cops and Campus Cops go, do we have more Barney Fife's or Andy Griffith's?

Unfortunately - yeah, that's what it looks like.

No, it's because this is his second incident in the past 4 months. I guarentee you if Royce or Allen had two incidents in 4 months people would want them gone too. None of the guys we've brought in that have had troubles in the past haven't gotten into ANY trouble while at ISU.

I am not saying he shouldn't be in some kind of trouble I just think it is kind of funny that people want to kick the kid off the team for getting in trouble for disorderly conduct but will accept transfers with past issues. So what it says to me is, go to another school and get in trouble and then we will let you transfer in. But if get in trouble at Iowa State we don't want you. It just seems funny that's all. But I agree that there should be some punishment.

The charge could very well be bogus as many of my student clients get charged just because police have a tendency to charge everyone involved. For example, if someone gets jumped and is defending themselves, the police generally charge everyone involved and let the judicial system sort it all out. Really no point in jumping to conclusions until all of the the facts are out. Here is the statute which makes it a simple misdemeanor to do a variety of things:

723.4 Disorderly conduct.

A person commits a simple misdemeanor when the person does any of the following:

1. Engages in fighting or violent behavior in any public place or in or near any lawful assembly of persons, provided, that participants in athletic contests may engage in such conduct which is reasonably related to that sport.

2. Makes loud and raucous noise in the vicinity of any residence or public building which causes unreasonable distress to the occupants thereof.

3. Directs abusive epithets or makes any threatening gesture which the person knows or reasonably should know is likely to provoke a violent reaction by another.

4. Without lawful authority or color of authority, the person disturbs any lawful assembly or meeting of persons by conduct intended to disrupt the meeting or assembly.

5. By words or action, initiates or circulates a report or warning of fire, epidemic, or other catastrophe, knowing such report to be false or such warning to be baseless.

Want to get in on the ground floor in the rumor-generation business? Start churning out posts saying that Jordan was arrested for loudly claiming that an Avian Influenza Outbreak was imminent for the Central Iowa area.

I was thinking more like "TJ Hooker" myself.

Anyone else remember that officer from the late 80's/early 90's who was maybe 5'2" or 5'4" tall? We used to call him "Toy Cop", and I remember hearing from an administrator in the Rec Department that he supposedly had WAY more brutality complaints against him when compared to other APD officers. Implied that it was a case of "short guy syndrome".

He used to get assigned to all sorts of "innovative" assignments: I think he was their first "bicycle cop", and I know he was the K9 officer in the early 90's. I was sitting in BJ's, the "gentleman's club" north of Main Street one night in '91, and he came in checking ID's. One of the guys I was with started barking just loud enough for that cop to hear him, but then he'd stop when the guy started looking around. He kept that up for the whole 5 or 10 minutes the officers were in the bar, and it took Jedi-level control to keep a straight face while it was happening.

Interesting that you brought up Homan in a thread about drunken basketball players. I remember playing him in intramural softball. He was toasted. He got tagged out on a slide to second. Because he was short of the bag by about 10 yards. And we had to stop the game because it took him another couple minutes to actually get up and off the infield. This kind of stuff has been happening for awhile with athletes at every school, which is why I find it funny when we have posters go after Hawks that arein toruble with the law.

Charles, is that you?
