At any rate, with the QB uncertainty on this team (yes, uncertainty, I'll say it), I think there is a good chance that, if he's actually any good Big 12 level QB, he will be playing sooner than later. Agree that the RS tag is likely coming this year, though.

I don't know why, but Lanning seems like a guy that will RS this year, then sit on the bench next year noticing he probably may not get playing time in the near future at QB....and end up transferring to Iowa for his So, Jr and Sr year, because he is a Hawk fan by heart anyway. I'll try to put a positive spin on this...so you're saying the mighty iowa hawkeyes would want the guy competing for 3rd string qb. If that did happen, and he happened to start, I'd have trolling material so good, I'd be happy for him.

Back on topic, this surprises me. Watching him the state championship game he looked like a great athlete and he carried his team, but competition wasn't elite and his throwing motion did not look like a college QB.

I guess the staff has corrected that and it has really helped. He is a big body and I'm sure he will be an effective runner.

Uncalled for. He has the physical tools give him time to grow. His role on the state championship Ankeny team wasn't about throwing half the snaps. He did what the coaching staff wanted him to do. If he does that at ISU....

Don't know his 40 time but he was listed as a dual threat QB and ran more than passed. Here is a listing of his junior stats: Lanning threw for 1,733 yards and 18 touchdowns as a junior, while only throwing three interceptions along the way. He completed 54.5 percent of his passes. Lanning is a dual-threat quarterback, who ran for 636 yards and five touchdowns too.
