Jets Talk Heating Up Again...

“This place is special. I’m as loyal as you’re going to get, I really believe that the building process in taking something and making it special is what I love to do. That’s not a short-term fix. You’re not going to see a short-term fix by me or my staff. I’m here for the long haul … quite honestly, I look forward to raising my family here in Ames.”

Matt Campbell
I love that quote, and I really do believe that CMC is sincere when he said that. This isn't a "Firmly entrenched" type of quote. Campbell seems genuinely happy here, and enjoys the challenge of doing something that no one else has before. He seems to have a bit of that Snyder-esque mentality that is rare in the coaching world.
But it isn't a forgone conclusion that Campbell is our Snyder, and there is always the possibility of something too good to pass up coming along.

Until that happens, I am going to enjoy what Campbell has done at Iowa State, and where he will continue to push this program!

I dont think cample will retire at Iowa State not by a long shot. But he hasn't accomplished what he set out to yet. He is well on the way to his goals, but not there yet.

I am about .5% concerned when I see his name pop up in discussions today. In 5 years I will likely grow more concerned. But by that time Iowa State should be in a good spot.

Not worried about the Jets at all. Michigan would make me nervous. If beating your rivals is important to them then he wouldn't be a candidate.

Elsewhere? Sure.

The Jets right now? No.

EDIT: Campbell's weakness in rivalry games (KSU / UI) certainly hurts his stock for UM & tOSU people. Those programs NEED to beat each other. It's the Browns that worries me...

I think the thing that I really found interesting is much closer Massilon, Ohio is to NYC than it is to Central Iowa.

I was in Akron for a wedding this july which is about 25 miles from Massilon. One of the groomsmen lives in NYC, he told me it was only a five hour drive for him. My drive from central Iowa was 10, I couldn't believe it.

I went to Akron for our game there in 2017. I met a buddy who lives in Waukee in the Quad Cities, and we car pooled from there.

By the time we got to our hotel, he had spent more time in the car than it took him to get to our buddy's place in the northern suburbs of Dallas.

Ohio might be "Midwestern" to a lot of people, but it's geographically a long god damn ways east.

He sounds firmly entrenched

The buyout is pretty nasty. I don’t see an NFL franchise wanting to spend that money right now for any college coach really. Michigan or Ohio State, sure.

Tuscaloosa AL is closer than Massillon.

Denver, Dallas, Shreveport LA, and Winnipeg Manitoba are all closer.

Drive another half hour and you're at Santa Fe, Waco, Baton Rouge, Billings MT, lubbock TX, and Atlanta.

Ohio is more east than Savannah Georgia.

People give me **** when I say it, but this is also why I don’t consider Indiana and Ohio the Midwest.

Eh, not really. Atlanta though...

I think if we win or even go to the Big 12 Championship it's possible we lose Coach Campbell. His goal was to show that you can win a championship here and if that happens he may look for new challenges. I don't think it was a coincidence that he never named a OC while coach Manning was gone and he comes back a year later. I think he is setting him up to take his place if he ever leaves. Just like he did for Jason Candle at Toledo. Obviously, I hope he stays, but I know he is not going to be a lifer.
