It is nice to not have dudes like Fran Franschilla, who genuinely like the program, get run off by the staff, thats for sure

Norlander is not high on the Cyclones. TOE is #44, Memphis is overrated again and we are 9th in the Big 12 at #77.

I’ll never forget Fran basically kissing Memphis’s ass when we played them last year. He wouldn’t shut up about them being not a full strength while we whooped their ass up and down the court. I have no idea what happened with Fran, but I don’t think he likes us too much anymore.
I do not recall this, but I will take your word for it.
However, I think Fran still likes us a lot.
Talking about going to 3 different practices in one day. How much of a basketball junky do you have to be to just sit in on 3 different practices for the hell of it (assuming he's not getting payed). I would be interested in attending ONE Iowa State practice just to see what it's like as a fan of the team, but I'm sure by the end of that I would be getting bored.
JVG seems to have an affinity for Iowa. He has also spoken highly of UNI and Ben Jacobson and I'm pretty sure he went to one of their practices back in '15-16 season as well.
I love that JVG is a friend of the program but I have to chuckle a little bit thinking about the knock down drag out teams he had in the 90's. It was not pretty basketball but it won. Shouldn't be a surprise the rock fight style we play is right up his alley.
I think Fran went to some practices before the season and came away thinking we didn’t have a talented enough roster to compete last year. This is no different than what almost everyone else thought including everyone on CF at the beginning of the year last year. I think that team genuinely surprised him and the rest of us with their ability to win games with effort and toughness against more talented teams. During the Memphis game he seemed to be just waiting for Memphis’s talent to take over. Fran was back to singing our praises later in the year after the team showed they could constantly overcome our lack of offensive talent. I never felt like Fran’s interest in Iowa State changed.
