Jaz Kunc has a Broken Finger

CW said in his post-game reaction that the injury is worse than people realize so hopefully it's something that he can still come back from at some point.

I took CW's take on that podcast as it's less serious than a month and Otz said a month to prepare people for the worst case scenario.

I could be wrong, but I heard it the opposite.

Is it a finger or his "hand"? Seemed his whole hand was wrapped on the bench the other day. Is the break a metacarpal? I think of the "finger" bones as those that extend beyond the palm and metacarpals as "hand" but maybe that's just me.

Rare look at Jaz's finger:

I'll worry about Jaz until he's back on the court. UNI's Nate Heise was going to be out 3-4 weeks with a finger injury. Now out for the year after surgery.

Didn’t see it but for my broken finger they did a splint, for hand it was outer palm and in a half cast,

I think Gabe is what he is at this point. There will be 2 games where he is lights out awesome, but there will be way more games where you just can't even put him on the floor.

I think he would be "less bad" if he just stopped shooting 3s entirely. Just play defense and make layups. He is 20% from 3 against teams not named McNeese and IUPUI; yet leads the team in attempts. That has to stop.

Because he had one of his two lights-out games vs Baylor? That game demonstrates my point exactly doesn't it?

I hope I am wrong, and he has turned a corner and is now suddenly a consistent 40%+ shooter from 3. That would be enormous for this team. But based on the large sample set of the last ~40 games, I think it is more likely he will be a ~20% shooter with a couple great games here and there.

The whole premise that Gabe is unplayable on other nights, is where you are wrong.

There is a huge gap between Gabe's game on Saturday and being unplayable that a few people on here just don't get. There have been no games this year that he's been unplayable. His worst game was Iowa and everybody but Lipsey and Jones were unplayable that night.

We have 12 games of evidence on this season, so you can stop with your biases from last season. He's not turning the ball over, taking better 3s, taking it to the hoop. Last year, he was basically the back up PG the last half of the season, which magnified his negatives.

If he continues to shoot 30% on the season, with the other things he does so well, he's never unplayable.

Gabe is needed on the floor as a leader, defender and occasional scorer in that order. I’m ok with him shooting a couple of 3s to see if he has it and when open. He is not typically a chucker so he doesn’t hurt us.

I’m tired of everyone bagging on a kid that plays ******* hard and is a great teammate.

Milwaukee, UNC and North Dakota games were MISERABLE.

Baylor, IUPUI, and McNeese St were exceptional.

The other 1/2 of the games he is serviceable due to his exceptional defense, despite bad offense.

That's fair. He does have nights where he isn't helping on offense, but his defense and other contributions are strong - that's more often than not really. He has a few nights where he does neither, and shouldn't be on the floor. I didn't word that well initially, and it comes off as never should play at all, and that's not what I meant.

I think what cyfan92 posted sums it up well. His bell curve of performance seems flatter than most, I suppose.

Seems more like a wrist injury based on the way it’s wrapped. Didn’t he injure this hand in a game earlier in the season?
