Jaz Kunc has a Broken Finger

He’s zero threat to dribble/drive and we don’t run him off screens, which makes him essentially useless on offense. Plus, it’s not like he’s that much better than our true wing shooters.

If we replace him with someone that can dribble/drive that isn’t a viable catch-and-shoot threat outside of the arc, there is one more defender with a foot in the paint waiting to Mark Adams anyone that attempts to drive. Even if Jaz never touches the ball and stands in one place, it opens the floor.

This doesn’t account for the assists, tip-out rebounds, and charges that he’s good for each game. He’s an important piece.

I like Watsons hustle and potential but he's a big drop off from Kunc at this point. Especially entering our toughest stretch of the year. There is a reason Jaz plays so much. Hopefully Tre can fill in and be really good rebounding because we already can struggle rebounding and Jaz does a lot there
Too bad Ward doesn't provide anything offensively, because he 'could' be as good defending as Kunc as well as a rebounder. But the offense.....woof!

I think we're ok, this year, having 1 guy on the court that isn't an offensive threat, as opposed to 2 or 3 at once, like sometimes last season. With Rob and Osun a threat to score and passing so well in the interior, Ward can get some easy dunks by attacking the basket or sliding behind the D on the baseline.

He’s good, wasn’t saying he doesn’t add value. But he’s playing out of position. Just don’t think he’s that much better of a spot up shooter than some of our true wings. Small sample size for todays win, but we’ll see.

You said he’s essentially useless on offense, not sure how someone useless on offense adds value.

I was shocked at the size of the banding/wrap on Jaz hand and arm when they showed him. I thought it was a finger so I figured it would only be finger or maybe the hand. The bandage wrap went to his elbow. Hopefully that immobilizes it more so it repairs quicker.

I was confused by this as well. No fingers were splinted or wrapped

He's been great for UNI. I don't think he fits the mold for what TJ wants at ISU. He is small, and not sure if he defends well, but even at his size, you can technically be a good defender and have it not matter due to how small you are. See Tyler Harris for reference.
He shoots way better than Harris

Holmes is the X factor that will make us go. We don't need him to be Brockington, but need him to win big games

In his 3 worst games this year (UCONN, ND, Iowa), Holmes has a combined 22 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, 9 TO's, and 5 made free throws.

In his 3 best games this year (SJ, UNC, Nova). Holmes has a combined 48 points, 12 rebounds, 14 assists, 7 TO's and 10 made free throws.
0/1 on this take... Did not see our two SG's going off TOGETHER like that.

I think the OU matchup is where we feel the Jaz injury more than Baylor. BU plays 3 guards, and undersized 4 and then a big 5. While OU's front court and PG are their strength. They can play 2 good sized 4/5's and a good sized 3.

This is the first REAL test for Tre King. Time to see if he is for real against Godwin and the Groves brothers.

Agree with this. Kunc played T Groves off the court at Hilton last year and Groves has actually been struggling a bit shooting the 3 this year. J Groves has not, however. Surprisingly to me, OU does not O rebound well. Per Torvik they are 338th in OR% and that's essentially all from Godwin.

I've only seen a handful of minutes of OU this year but Godwin has impressed me. Pretty sure he just walked on there but he can be a load on the boards and gets some blocks. Kunc would have negated him pretty well though if we played a small lineup by making him chase him around the perimeter. But we'll just have to work with what we have.

I actually think the key is Cortes and Godwin off the bench for OU. In games they lose, those two don't do much, but we've seen how Cortes can spark them and be a pest from the second half of our game down their last year. Keep those two in check and make Sherfield and Groves work for their 3 looks and we'll give ourselves a chance.

I noticed this as well. It must be a pretty severe finger injury.

CW said in his post-game reaction that the injury is worse than people realize so hopefully it's something that he can still come back from at some point.
