Jaylen Raynor VLOG

I thought it was notable he was interested in and showed so much of Ames, not just the athletics facilities. Just imagine what an upgrade it will be to show recruits CyTown and stay at the Cardinal with rooftop views of Jack Trice and Hilton.

The info with the SC coach was next level. It will be nice to have a staff that attempts to build athletes instead of body builders
Did someone make the "body builders" comment in the video?

I've been an apologist for our recent S&C and our injury woes, but they have seem heavily focused on just making players bigger and stronger, sometimes to their detriment (e.g. Mike Rose). I'm no S&C professional but "don't try to be a bodybuilder" is like S&C 101-level stuff.

No, That was my observation. Honestly if you compare Kagy to this years SC coach, the philosophical difference is pretty evident

Rose would have had Wade and Andrews as S&C coaches though, right? I do recall frustration from fans from both of those guys, and generally positive feedback from fans about Kagy since he came back at the 2022 season, and how 'different' his approach had been vs. past regimes (tiny snippet here). I recall significant conversation for example the last 2 games vs. Iowa (including our win in Iowa City) about how we "looked" like the more physically and athletically imposing football team compared to Iowa, with fans crediting a change in S&C philosophy for this transformation. "Tougher for longer" was absolutely true in both of those wins. The 2024 win, we dominated the LOS the entire second half, and this past 2025 season - even after being very clearly drained from the Ireland trip and 3rd game in 3 weeks, outlasted even Iowa's best effort to try to steal a W from us.

I do hope the new staff has some kind of 'approach' for injury prevention for the back 7+ on defense, particularly the defensive backfield. Transitioning away from the 3-3-5 (which IMHO, put our smaller d-backs in harms way much more often by forcing them to be constant hard hitters in run/gap support) should help.

I grew up playing baseball basically year round. Didn't have a decent looking golf swing until I was 23 or 24. Most of these guys have probably never played a sport involving a bat/club

Rose was under Andrews.

To be honest, I think a lot of fans are ignorant to what actually goes on in a S&C program and use it as a scapegoat for anything that goes wrong. During the McCarney years, our OL were "too big and couldn't keep their knees healthy". Then with Rhoads, our fans complained that our OL were "too small and couldn't survive the Big 12." Then with Campbell it was "they're putting on too much weight!". Then it was "they can't stay healthy!" It's always something.

Good post. I do think the 3-3-5 took way too much of a physical toll on our safeties and corners. Guys like Elsworth and Freyler were completely broken at the end of their careers. Anthony Johnson and Cooper moving to corner was smart on their part. It was a scheme that allowed us to close the gap on the elite offenses of the conference, but it hasn't been sustainable.

I could be wrong but I am fairly certain Anthony Johnson started at corner and ended up at safety.

Good post. I think fans overestimate the influence the S&C coaches/program have on causing or preventing injuries. NFL guys all have world-class S&C and they get injured all the time.

Also don’t forget the S&C coach is the best thing since sliced bread until their house is for sale

Rocco Becht apparently was a pretty good golfer from team interview question videos.

A lot of kickers throughout NFL/NCAAF seem to have good golf swings from what I've seen.

Yep. A baseball swing is horrible for a golf swing. I started golfing at like 15 & it took me into my early 20s as well to get rid of my good baseball/bad golf swing habits and finally became a respectable golfer by my mid 20s.

Apparently Campbell did too. He had a revolving door installed at the S&C offices.
