Jaquan Amos Commits!!!

Naw, good teams reload because the backups compete against some of the best players in practice. Our Oline will have four returners alone I believe so not sure whwere you got 3. Also, we sub in a lot of players and with our talent should have a handful of games where we will get the backups meaningful snaps.

That depends on what you see as a returning starter. They are losing 3 starters in Foster, Newell, Schweiger. But they also return Downing, Remsburg, Simmons, Ramos, who have all started games. OL is by far our most experienced position heading into next year and that's with losing those 3 guys.

Who knows with Newell and schweiger, they could come back another year. Dean may step up as a TE and be experienced. Brock will be an experienced back. We have some WRs that will have experience.

You are absolutely right. 2022 could be a rebuild year. Nothing wrong with that even if we don’t win a conference title this year. As long as we keep our coach, we’ll be fine. And if he doesn’t go anywhere after next year, he’s probably around for a while.

I don't think there's any doubt it's a rebuild year. You don't lose guys like that at ISU and not take a step back. The only question is how big of a step. Is it 6-6 or is it 3-9? And I agree with you that if the coach stays through the rebuild year, he's probably here for a long time. One things for sure, the transfer portal next December/January is going to be epic around here.

Reading posts about where Amos will play reminds me talking about what position Matt Blair played when I was in school! I am not saying he will be as good Blair, but he just adds what looks like a pretty good new piece for Heacock to use and confuse.

3-9 and there will be idiots on this board that Campbell has lost his drive/ability to coach. They will be wrong but they will be posting.

Inside look at Amos' recruitment:

Sounds like Leach could have had him if he would have just spoken to the kid once himself rather than just leaving it up to the assistants. Not surprising to me since Leach never cared about that side of the ball at Tech. That has changed some but he will always be an offense first kind of guy.

Adding an NFL caliber S will be big time. Already projected as a 7th rounder, and thinks he can raise his stock here.
Let’s correct this, shall we?

The actual quote for the NFL evaluation was “7th round or free agent”. Not a glowing recommendation to go pro.

i also never saw anything about “raising his stock”. My impression was that he figured he may as well enjoy playing another year, since an NFL career wasn’t a lock.

That doesn’t’t mean he won’t raise his stock, but there’s been an awful lot of extrapolation from what the kid has actually said—then people build on top of that extrapolation.

Do you have any idea how many great Cyclones were drafted in the 7th round or undrafted?

Also being projected as a 7th rounder or undrafted still gives you a good chance of going to an NFL training camp. He graduates this spring, so why not try the Pro route? Oh that’s right, raising your stock

I think 2022 is going to give us a good idea of what the floor of the program is going to be going forward under Campbell. I'm not going to lie, I'll be disappointed if it's less than 6-6 barring some bad luck. I'm perfectly content for 'up' years being in the hunt for a conference title and New Years 6 Bowl and 'down' years ending in a lower-tier bowl.

The 2022 recruiting class will be a good opportunity to hopefully move up in the recruiting rankings so long as the culture is maintained and start to cement in the floor of the program.

I guess no other team is losing players except us ... some posters still can't believe we actually have a Top 10 culture and PROGRAM. Lay off the hand wringing and negative vibes...jeeeez people!

I mean, there's losing players and then there's losing 17/22 starters. It's not even a negative to me. I would have loved to be in the position we're in any year in the last 25. Like ExCyDing says above, we're going to get the opportunity to see how high Campbell has raised the floor via recruiting and culture. If 6-6 is the floor moving forward, I'm going to be pretty happy. 6-6 was pretty close to the ceiling for most of the 00's and above the ceiling for the 90's.

With as many rotations that we do, QB is the only position that doesn’t see multiple people play. We will have experience at every other spot.

I'll disagree with that some. We do not rotate on the OL unless there are injuries. For good or bad (mostly good), Breece had over 78% of the RB carries. If you consider X, Shaw, Milton the WR starters, the rest of the WRs combined for 33 catches. Obviously, the TEs ate into their snaps. They did a good job of rotating in DLs. The 2nd string LBs did see quite a bit of time, but combined for 20 tackles. The CB rotation was mostly Kyle/Young. We saw very little of the other guys. Safety rotation was mostly giving Eisworth a rest or filling in for Isheem Young when he got ejected.

I'm not going to say they did a poor job of playing the backups, but they are going to have to do more of it in preparation for 2022. They're also going to have 2 extra games, so keeping guys fresh for the stretch run and the post season will be extremely important. The good thing is these backups will all be a year older than they were last year so they should be more ready to play and we're definitely not throwing them to the wolves with what we have coming back.

Actually, we do rotate lineman on possessions. Not as much this year as we did two years ago. The center will not change but the guards and right tackle would get rests, left tackle was second least.

I must have been watching different games or not paying attention then. I saw guys get pulled at times like Ramos did in the bowl game. I saw guys get replaced due to injury. I saw everyone but Newell get replaced in mop-up time. But I didn't see much rotation. Maybe someone like Hudson coming in on goal line. That said, hardly anyone rotates on the OL.

This year was less like I mentioned, I think the injuries hit quick and already having young guys he was limited. 2 years ago he was running 7-8 lineman.

Interesting that we see it differently. From what I remember, JGJ played almost every snap except when he was suspended. Downing played pretty much the whole year at LG. Olsen played Center after Newell was hurt. Knipfel played almost every down at RG except for when they moved him to LT vs ND. Meeker got almost all the snaps at RT. There was very little depth. Foster hardly played. Schweiger played just a little against UNI. Ramos got a few snaps at LT. That was in 2019. 2018 was not much better depth-wise.

I do think that this year, we at least have the ability to rotate more, just because the 2nd string isn't all Freshmen.
