James Van Der Beek dead

Sorry that you may have misconstrued that I am ungrateful. Could be because I did not waste my time by refuting the BS the egotistical Spartan painted in his post previous to mine. Maybe I should have spent more words, but chose not to.

So I will try to clarify what my opinion is. In my original post to this thread I suggested young people should have a scope done. As far as I know it is still one of the recommended procedures. My own experience is it was a total waste of a week of my life. I doubt I am the only one in this category.

To me this raises some questions. Is it impossible for modern medicine to find a better system than what we have? Why has very little been done in advancing this in 30 years? Are we sure healthy people could not be just as healthy by wasting one or two days instead of a whole week of their lives? What is being done to come up with simpler reliable tests that could be used instead of, or in conjunction with scopes and get satisfactory results?

I am convinced that change is an opportunity to make things better. I fail to see where the current system has been looking to change. This is all probably beyond the discussion necessary for this thread. We are not going to change anything here. In fact other than my own experience what do I have to add? So maybe better I choose to keep my posts brief, and then they can easily be misconstrued.

Didn’t post any BS just think you are approaching this from a very wrong mindset.

To answer your other questions: colonoscopies have only really been around for 50ish years and only have been given guidance for about 25-30 years so it’s relatively new. There have been a ton of advancements to the scopes such as imaging, polyp removal/biopsy, as well as ability’s to clean the lens and take samples.

While there have been alternate testing options none come close to the gold standard the way a scope does. This is mainly due to the fact that you can both get imagining (even when an area is blocked) and remove polyps/biopsy on one procedure.

While you believe you time was wasted it’s actually the best method of getting clear results with very minimal risk. As such there isn’t much of a need or even ability to create an additional test that would waste less of your time

A procedure that requires well people to waste a week of their lives is certainly profitable for the medical profession but does nothing to make well people more well. With all of your mentioned improvements where is the progress toward reducing the need for well people to have a an unpleasant unnecessary procedure to just torture themselves. It’s all for kicks and giggles and the price we need to pay to help those sick ones.

Your system is flawed and your profession should work toward progress for improving the results. Can’t say that I see where that is happening at a fast enough pace for me to notice it in my time. BTW just because my opinion is different than yours does not make it or me “stupid”. That’s what I consider your BS.

How did you waste a week on a colonoscopy? My wife got one and it was basically a day.

LOL it is quite a theory, he counts the prep time plus the scope and recovery he has had multiple scopes done over time add it all together and it's a week. He is upset because he has had them done and they've been negative, sucks to be healthy. Oversimplification but that's the gist of it.

I think he is saying each one wastes a week. Not eating nuts for 3 days before is apparently his own personal Vietnam.

Oh I misunderstood. Pfft I just sort of did what the Doc said took the prep the night before and was back to being fine that evening(all my scopes have been in the a.m. )

Between the prep and procedure (which has changed over the years), more than a day was lost each time I’ve had one done. After having five of them done it equates to a week of my life. Lot of other things I would rather have done with that time my doctor insisted on controlling.

Just stop going to the doctor then. Problem solved.

Good luck on getting your brothers to go. 50+ they really should get one done. Hopefully they have insurance to cover it. Uninsured because of the cost factor I could see hesitation but from a health standpoint it's time to get it done.
They have insurance just to chicken to have it done. I’ve called them out a few times. They live a sheltered life in rural Iowa and just too stuck in their ways.
