James Van Der Beek dead

100% right. And don’t try to take an “easy” way out with at home testing. They are no where near as reliable as the scope and it doesn’t get you the full picture
I just did my first a few weeks back. It really wasn’t bad at all.

This makes 3 of 5 main football players from Varsity Blues that are gone. :(

Listening to Varsity Blues movie podcast at work and will probably watch the movie when I get home.

Another great role he had was unsub Tobias Hankel on criminal minds.
Damn, I'd forgotten Lester died 10 years ago!

... a lot of people really make the whole ordeal out to be way worse than it is. ... Overall, it's an easy and painless process. ... and I don't have any issues with doing it again.
This is my experience as well. I was dreading the prep and it turned out no where near as bad as I expected. Yeah, it was inconvenient, but easy. No pain at all. I would do it again every six months if recommended. It's easy, painless, and a day off work.

I was slightly embarrassed, however. Before the procedure I asked the doctor if they can take a photo of anything interesting they see so I could see it afterwards because I was really curious. Turned out one of the photos was an external close up of my hole with the scope fully inserted. Nurse got me the pictures afterwards, and I was still a bit loopy on the junk, and I promptly forwarded them to the group chat.

So overall, win-win-win situation.

No disrespect to J. Van Der Beek, May he rest in peace.

As far as the scopes go I think I had my fifth one last year. It will definitely be my last. Never found anything in any of my tests so just turned out to be a loss of a week of my life. Next time I wish for a physic, I’ll take the easy route and eat too much fresh fruit.

Having said that probably not a bad thing to have done for peace of mind, at least until one gets old like me. Then probably proceed based on your personal experience.

I had zero recollection of the procedure...and zero after effects! Yes...the prep that goes into is not fun! But if you are able to schedule around your life and plan ahead...it really isn't a huge deal! Had 2 so far...got a 7 year call-back for the next one...so that is some nice peace of mind!
Had my second a year ago. They did find a couple benignj polys nothing to worry about, but did move me to one every five years. I don't even remember how I got to the car after recover. I kept asking my wife if I did anything stupid. I finally came out of the clouds as we were going through the McDs drive through as i guess I told my wife I was hungry and I guess I said the drive thru.

Iv'e tried to get my 50+ year old brothers to get one one but they refuse to. I've been around a few people that went through cancer so I made sure that at 50 I got my appointment. I also get a physical every year and the get all the blood work done and the one test I always seem to look at is the PSA one.

You consider a colonoscopy losing a week of your life? If it is in the morning you do half the prep the night before and get up early the next morning to do the second half. After the actual scope you are just fine a couple hours later.

He was including all five that he’s had. Not each one was a week.

You waited until 58 to get a colonoscopy and are preaching preventative screenings? You only missed your first screening by 13 years.
Do as I say, not as I do. I was lucky but many won't be.

By the way, when I turned 50, 50 was still the prescribed first colonoscopy age for those without high risk factors. They have since moved it to 45.

So I was only 8 1/2 years late. ;)

The prep is a pain, but I agree on the procedure. I remembered reading that they would ask you to roll over on your left side. I remember being wheeled into the room and them asking me to roll over which I started as soon as they spoke - then I remember waking up in recovery.

The prep wasn't really a pain, but rather a bother. Yes, well worth the peace of mind.

Reading the title I thought this was about the Canadian bball player from late McDermott/ early Hoiberg era.

I went there for a second or two as well.

They asked me to change my diet 7 days out, go on a pretty restrictive diet 3 days out and pretty much fast 1 day out. So I can see where he's going. Just an annoyance more than anything. I heard horror stories about cramps and stuff during "the purge" and I was a little worried about that since I had a real bad experience when I learned that I was definitely allergic to morel mushrooms and refused to throw up. (Don't do that, just throw up. They will find their way out and traveling through your GI tract in minutes rather than days is NOT FUN.) But I had no cramping whatsoever from this.

They've never asked me to change my diet. Just don't eat the day before. The prep, while not fun, isn't as awful as some people try to make it sound.

For some reason they dithered around on scheduling mine after getting referred by my doctor. When they finally called me, they said they had an opening barely 3 days later, so I didn't have much of a chance to alter my diet too much prior to the procedure. The purge was not great but gave me time to catch up on some shows and movies.

I'm pulling this off of the paperwork they gave me about prep:

7 days:
stop eating whole kernel popcorn, popcorn, nuts, and foods that contain seeds.

3 days: (no more than 10-15g fiber per day)
no whole wheat or whole grain breads, no breads with more than 2 grams of fiber per serving, cornbread, corn or whole wheat tortillas, potatoes with skin, brown rice, wild rice, quinoa, kasha (buckwheat), oatmeal, raw or steamed veggies, vegetables with seeds, corn in any form, prunes, prune juice, raisins and other dried fruits, berries and other fruits with seeds, canned pineapple, juices with pulp such as orange, grapefruit, pineapple or tomato juice, any yogurt with nuts, seeds or berries, tough fibrous meats with gristle, cooked dry beans, peas or lentils, crunchy peanut butter, pickles, olives, relish, horseradish, jam, marmalade, preserves, popcorn, nuts, seeds, granola, coconut, candies made with nuts or seeds, all desserts that contain nuts, seeds, raisins and other dried fruits, coconut, whole grains or bran.

1 day: (What I could have...)
Only clear liquid diet: water, tea, coffee (black), soda, Gatorade (no red or purple), coconut water, jell-o, popsicles (no milk or fruit pieces - not red or purple), fat free broth or bouillon, plain hard candy such as clear Life Savers (no red or purple), clear juices and fruit flavored drinks, such as apple and white grape juices, Hi-C and Kool-Aid (no red or purple)

I found it easier that last day to just drink coffee and water.

EDIT: I won't go into the actual purge process the evening before.
