I went to Sandal's Whitehouse on the south side of the island. I recommend it to anyone going.
We went on an excursion to a rum factory that was awesome.
I'd go as far as saying, screw the all inclusives and go there. But it's cheaper, still on 7mi beach, and close to tourist shops, local restaurants, and a grocery store if you wanted to cook yourself. As for the beach, they can make sure you snorkel or para sail too.
Not that I'm biased at all:wideeyed:
went there for the honeymoon in 06. i think it was only around $3500 bucks for 8 days, and it was unbelieveable how nice3 it was. also went to rick's cafe and did the cliff diving, and we went on some black river boat ride that was pretty sketchy. How much did that trip set you back? We looked at that one once, but it seemed really pricey.

I was told last night that you can sometimes reach out and touch the alligator on that Black River boat ride.
Am planning a winter trip to Jamaica. Any suggestions as where to stay and what to do?
We went to Couples Sans Souci for our honeymoon, and absolutely loved it. It's an all-inclusive, but has fewer rooms than probably any other all-inclusive. The perks at Couples resorts are usually better than the Sandles resorts. It has a private beach which you won't get in Negril. Couples resorts are also "Couples only" - no kids and no singles.

Oh ya. i did touch one. the tour guide calls them over to the boat like a dog. he pats the water and says "come, come" and they swim over, then he lifts them up and lets you touch them. pretty sketchy.
then we see a bunch of jamaicans swimming and everyone is scared that they are going to get eaten alive when the guide literally says:
"don't worry-they only eat white meat"
needless to say on a boat full of white people, it was a little scary
That sounds like fun! I gotta try that.
I think we are going to hit the pelican bar this year. Looks fun:

It is just a shack a mile out into the ocean that some guy built using driftwood and turned it into a bar. You just relax out there and drink redstripe and eat fresh fish that you catch and they cook for you.
