ISU vs. K State Game Thoughts

Rocco had a complete misfire that should’ve been a K-State interception. But Rocco doesn’t dwell on his mistakes and immediately made elite plays to put us in winning position again. Absolute gamer
Question-
Watching the game replay, the body language of Sewell and the other receiver made it look like Sowell ran the wrong route on that dropped interception.

Here’s the thing. ISU beat themselves to at times

I’m hardcore drinking the koolaid. Full disclosure, it’s not the only thing I’m drinking on this victory Sunday, but KSU never. *******. lead.

Had ISU not had so many miscues of their own, this game wouldn’t have even been close, IMO.

This could have easily been a 17 pt game. The only reason it was one possession was because CMC made the smart play at the end of the game and didn’t completely snap the necks of the purple kitties

I think I heard someone say KSU switched to 4 down lineman where they had been running 3 in years past. It confused the linemen (assignment wise) and they made corrections at halftime.
Campbell was real chippy bout that. He didnt mention that but said they ran a different defense than they have.

Rewatched the game today. It is crazy to me how much depth we use on this team. We rotate guys in and out at every position except QB and OL.

I didn’t realize Cooper played exclusively at CB until I rewatched the game. CW called it. Cooper played great along with Bell and Williams.

Our young safeties are really athletic and very aggressive. They made some mistakes but also made some great plays. They have a ton of potential and are all over the place.

K State is really good at creating formations that get their best WR on a safety. Happened last year and this year.

Some need to cut Sama a break. He actually ran the ball well when the holes opened up in the second half. We need both him and Hansen.

Our TEs were great. 5 played lots by my count. Sometimes four together. Burkle may be All Conference if he continues his play.

Our redshirt freshman wide outs showed tons of potential today. They took advantage of their opportunities and it might be difficult to get snaps away from them.

OL was really good in the second half against a tough front seven. We will likely be even better when Buhr returns. Love the physicality

It's quite amazing the number of national media and college football fans across the country who have made remarks about how bad the game was and how bad both teams played.... It was week 0 August 23, in Ireland with a 6 hour time difference, on a wet/rainy/slippery field. I have no idea what everyone was expecting but it pretty much went exactly the way I envisioned it especially if someone would have told me it was going to be raining.

If it was 2 big 10 teams and the score was 9 to 6, they wouldn't shut up about defense and forced turnovers. Nothing unexpected.

I agree. Sowell and Townsend were in the same spot. Someone had to be in the wrong. Not sure who. That is why K State had so many guys there.

My final thought on this game, is our schedule next year is guaranteed to be harder because we able to get the automatic win against K-State!

Agree on Sama. Just finished the replay - he had some rough misreads and missed blocks in the first half but really settled in in that second half. Really did a good job of putting his foot in the ground and moving north/south. Showed a nice burst like we expected too. I was definitely too harsh on him in real time.

I would think it was he ran the wrong route or the ball slipped out of Roccos hand. The throw was between two receivers, one in front of the play and one deeper, and the ball went to the middle, where the KSU player was.

Its because neither ISU or KSU are "name teams" so they are not going to get the same amount of space as a named school, If Clemson or Penn State would have played in those conditions, then the national media would be saying it was the weather, the travel and first game of the year that caused them to be sloppy, but when its ISU and KSU, its because they really are just not very good teams.
It sucks but some schools that benefit of doubt, while others do not.

I can't think of too many Week 0 games where the teams looked real crisp.

I know they get to start camp etc earlier but I think the timing still leaves a few things disjointed.

Kinda feels like a chance to bash the Big 12.
Like if UT/tOSU doesn't exactly look mid-season form will we hear the same thing?

You play ksu soft and let them get short yardage because Avery Johnson has proven he can’t move a team down the field without making a bad decision and killing a drive.

1st and goal inside the 1 yard line with 2 minutes and 18 seconds remaining.

Campbell made the classy (and correct) decision to just go into victory formation rather than beating KState by 10. I wonder what percentage of coaches would have done the same thing.

Only an idiot would have tried to score there. A Cyclone TD is practically the only way they could have lost the game.
