ISU vs. K State Game Thoughts

It's easy to say our OL "blocked better" in the second half, and while there is probably some truth to that, I think the combo of making adjustments at halftime and leaning more on Hansen played a huge part. He just seems to follow blocks and attack the hole so much better than Sama does.
This is true, but Hansen still got nothing going in the first half. I think the Oline got a lot better as the game went on and KState started to wear down.

Do you think it would be odd if Heacock came out in a four man front first game, and no one knew?

How would they find out? Serious question. Klieman is no different from Campbell.

KState even listed their two deep as a three man front.

(We listed ours as four, so only fair)
Yes I would find that odd. Fascinating they listed it as a three man front.

I think Dylan Lee gets a fair share of carries this year and I don’t think he takes them from Hansen. Seems to have great vision and cut back ability. He has to be able to help in pass protection, though.

Link? I'm not saying he doesn't but how can this be if he didn't get any carries yesterday?

From a different perspective (I never played the game), which is more demoralizing, getting beat by a larger margin with an outside chance of recouping some of those points, or standing on the field for two minutes of game time knowing that the game is over and you can do absolutely nothing about it?

Take the knee

All in, I thought it was really good for game 1. Mouser was really good I thought except for the horrible pitch play at the goal line and there was one series we went three and out on 3 pass plays, but overall he did a great job.

Lot of national people bitchibg about sloppiness. But it’s totally unfair to think these teams are going to be in mid season form in August. But every week 1 game will have this kind of stuff. Let alone in a driving rainstorm.

Plus, we had 1 penalty, which is crazy for week 1.
On a rugby field after flying internationally too. With all those factors it was the appropriate amount of sloppiness.

Any word on complete replay of game?

It'll be posted on cyclones.tv by Tuesday. I assume it is already on the ESPN app. And I'd check the guide for all of the ESPN channels today because I assume they'll have it. It replayed at 3:00am last night.

The back end got burned a couple of times.

I'll tske 17 yards vs. a receiver walking in for a TD.
We got burnt a couple of times because the safety forgot his number 1 key, NEVER let a WR get deeper than you. On the second TD, you could see he started to rotate up, and then realized the inside receiver had done and out and up, and it was too late for him to recover. That has nothing to do with scheme, just poor play by him.

We were playing way too soft on the outside, and allowed easy throws which KSU took advantage of, which when you have 5 DBs back there should never happen. The corner should be setting on that easy out pass, and if the receiver goes up field, then give him off to the safety that should pick him up.

I loved skipping the FG attempt and going for it. If you miss, KSU is trying to tie the game with a fg so most likely worst case is OT. If you‘red up 6 they’re trying to win it with a TD. Happens all the time especially in the NFL. Down 3 they almost always try to tie it Instead of win it.
As in-we kick or kick and miss we lose for sure?

Yes and even with playing soft there's a chance young safeties get burned so it looked like they took the low risk option.

It looked like miscommunication a few times yesterday along with bad positioning.

One thing to remember is that when we look bad in the first game against SE Missouri State or someone like that, a lot of the reason is on us. But yesterday, we were playing a team that is good. So some of the stuff is just due to the other team.
