If TJ is saying it publicly, I highly doubt it's the first time Heise would have heard it or fully realized it himself.

Yeah something I like about TJ is he seems to be real up front with the players and doesn't mince words either.

Him pouring the kool-aid for the new guys is a little surprising but gets me looking forward to the first game in a few weeks.

So I did my annual task of pulling up the roster and figuring out who the hell these guys are.

Back row: Xzavion Mitchell, Milan, Eric Mulder, Dominykas Pleta, Blake Buchanan, JJ, Heise, Mason Williams (out for the year)
Front row: Killyan Toure, Dominick Nelson, Kelderman, Tamin, Anthony Rise (walk-on), Jamarion Batemon

Some take aways-
JJ changing from #2 to #5 may hurt my brain for a bit
Pleta seems to clearly be the tallest guy on the team
Buchanan has a neck like a linebacker
Toure is physically advanced for a freshman - he looks every bit 6'3" 205# (from videos more than this picture)
Mitchell is listed at 6'6" and Mulder at 6'9" - but in this picture they look to be similar heights
Kelderman taller than Nelson. Concerned.

I have a picture of five foot me next to Eric. He is every bit of 6'9". Trust me.

Not everything that happens to a person is basketball related. Even if we get the same guy we had last year, that is a very valuable piece to have on the roster.

Didn't say it was nor did I in any way make it sound like I felt he wasn't a valuable member of the program, my thoughts are the extreme opposite.

To me the closest recent ISU comp to Heise is Chris Babb (6'5", strong, athletic, solid 3&D, dependable, 30+ min game, etc.), which I think any ISU hoops fan would see as a massive positive.

I was about to take issue with this, then I thought about it. Chris was a great defender who stood out like a sore thumb on a team that didn't even consider defense secondary, probably more tertiary. Babb on this team would blend in as another great defender on a team of great defense.

Hopefully Nate's streaky shooting this year is shooting 75% from distance in one game to shooting 33% in the next. We don't need a bunch of O-fer games. His last third of the season last year was promising in this regard.

Heise's confidence was got so low that fans were screaming for him to shoot the ball and he wouldn't.

My thought was there could have been health or personal things over the summer that made it "up & down."
He will be a valuable piece this season.

Then, you're concerned about Tamin only 6-foot-1? I've always thought it was about talent more than one inch or two. But I'll concede, what do I know?
Sorry, I was making a joke because they're both sitting down in the photo.
