Quite the reaction out of tyrese for nothin

Didn't seem out of line. Just a few guys not shying away from a challenge. It should be a fun atmosphere.
I don't see any problem, with what Gabe said, 'looking fwd to TX the most', or Tyrese's return 'free smoke' response. Very mild trash talk in sports. It could be a lot worse.

Texas will be a huge game, mostly because it's Texas and we always want to beat them. It only has a little more edge to it with Tyrese's transfer.

Tyrese should know he will not be looked upon favorably with his Texas transfer. He did what he thought was best for him. I will always thank him for his Cyclone year, but now he is probably free game. He should know that. And I'm not sure he cares.

For instance: in the Cap City title game his senior year, Monte would run away from a freshman Jakolby Long and yell "he's with us" every time Jakolby was squaring up a jumper until the poor kid was like 2-15 and visibly psyched out. Might've caused irreperable damage to any confidence he had in his shot lmao
Yes "he's with us" means said player shoots so bad he is hurting his team and they are basically playing 4 on 6 because of it.

if he even plays much
Tyrese will likely play quite a bit, because he's pretty good, is a stabilizing force, and more than likely is a good culture guy (just what Texas needs, right?).

But you are right. There is no guarantee he will play much, definitely not as much as at ISU. It will depend on how good this 'I'm in trouble already' new 5* Freshman PG is. It will make an interesting follow.

Gosh, I assumed he would start and be the main pg w/big minutes. No freshmen will beat him out, I don't care if they're a 5-star. Just my opinion. While the Gabe tweet and his reply were typical trash talk I suppose, some of the Cyclone(I assume) comments in the replies were embarrassing. I get he should expect some riled up, hostile crowd when we play, but a 'few' comments went overboard. No surprise I guess.

I'm with you. I will still support Tyrese Hunter. He's been thru a lot in his life. He deserves to do what he wants and what he feels is best for him. He's going to catch some flak when he comes to Ames (and with some people's posts)!

Just not real great he transferred to Texas, of all schools. They probably offered him the best deal. I still hope it works out for the kid.

Meantime, I've moved on. Time to support TJ and all the Cyclones who are here this year and want to be Cyclones!

They have several top notch guards and tyrese will really see less minutes for sure but depending on how he’s used. They signed 2 PGs and Carr is back. Not sure how this made sense unless Texas just outbid everyone but in the same breathe then why’d Texas spend the cash

Yeah, the roster fit for Hunter in Austin is poor.

Long as the check cleared, though...
Yup that’s what mattered to him, but all the more reason it’s not a surprise that people speculate he could legit be a 6th man

Hunter won't play less minutes imo. He's the second best guard on Texas. If not the best.

Arterio is a McDonald’s AA, he’s a PG and Carr is back. There’s no way he gets 35 min a game even if he starts somehow off ball

I know he took the money on the table now and he didn't obviously project as an NBA guy because of his small stature and lack of elite PG skills/outside shooting, but I wonder if he's blown whatever shot he had at Texas given they'll recruit over him so hard and the program's poor record with guards.

There are a ton of Texas guys in the NBA, but they're all PF/C types. Iowa State would have built the program around Hunter and he'd never average less than 35 MPG assuming he was healthy as long as he was in Ames, and Iowa State has some nice young guards in the NBA: Morris, Haliburton, Horton-Tucker.

I'm sure Longhorn money is nice, but A.J. Green is getting like $500,000 for a two-way deal. NBA money is insane compared to even the best NIL money assuming you can somewhat stick on a roster.

That’s why the comparisons CW and Blum give in podcasts are actually pretty spot on as to how this could be an advantage in some cases like ISU

I'll bet on a proven sophomore over a high school all american on no NBA draft boards every day of the week. I'm aware Carr is back. There's such thing as a two PG system. Or Carr will play off the ball some. If Tyrese doesn't play 30 or more mpg I'll be shocked.

Oh for sure, I don’t doubt he’s 28-30 a game but that’s still a drop in his minutes plus the 3 of them can co exist but it just benefits him short term more than anything is my opinion

Iowa State really is betting on yourself.

That's what AJ would have been doing (instead of going to Duke and risking being lost in the rotation) had he stayed in college had the Bucks not called at the last minute and fulfilled his dream.

I know we missed on AJ this offseason but that same appeal/pitch is still going to be there.

I'll boo him like a god damn hawkeye. Horns are easily my least favorite team in the conference. OU seems to have ruder fans from my limited personal experience but that Tx arrogance is 2nd to none.
