ISU in home uniforms?...

Hey, you don't want to discuss looks, don't open the thread instead of ******** to those that want to have the discussion...

A little touchy, are we? I never said I didn't want to talk about it. I've participated in uniform discussion threads before. I just think it's funny you guys think we need to wear something special because we're in a bowl game.

Here's an idea, and I know it's out there: let's wear our normal uniforms.

Regular, home uniforms definitely are best for the bowl game. We'll wear cardinal helmets and uniform with gold pants and white shoes and socks. The only difference will be the Independence Bowl patch on the jersey.

That said, I think those Jack Trice 1923 pseudo-throwbacks would be sweet for a non conference game sometime in the future (especially if we could arrange a series with Minnesota). We'd have to get permission from the NCAA to wear those, though, because there are no numbers on the front.

^ He left out letters in uniforms (form) so the apostrophe makes sense there. Think of it just like when you leave out letters in contractions.

cannot -> can't (left out "no")

uniforms -> uni's (left out "form")

70's probably doesn't need the apostrophe. It should probably be 70s.

He's not trying to make a contraction out of uniforms. He's trying to pluralize uni (as in short for uniform). No apostrophe needed.

Agreed, he's not trying to make a contraction. He is still leaving out letters and uses the apostrophe in place of those letters.

Apostrophes can be used in words that aren't contractions. Think of it like this: have you ever seen national shortened to nat'l or government shortened to gov't? The apostrophe simply marks where there are letters that are missing. I think it was probably a mistake trying to make the word "uni" plural, but it turns out that is a shortened word (for uniform) with missing letters, so the apostrophe is warranted. It was just an odd coincidence.

I think in this case it isn't necessarily right to use uni's, but it isn't wrong either.

Yeah, I don't think we could get away with having no numbers on the front. Maybe we could have Nike sneak a number above the stripes on the right pectoral.

Lemme guess - the same people that are ripping on the same color jerseys and pants are probably also the ones that are so enamored with the Texas, Alabama, and/or Penn St's all-whites. And don't start with the "well, that's different" argument - both the jerseys and pants are white, right? Well, guess what - that means they're the same color.

I wouldn't mind seeing is go all cardinal every once in awhile, like for a bowl game or a special game (like Cardinal Rules or the Iowa game), but not nearly to the extent that we used to.

Nope, not me. I understand some teams don't have alternate pants. So all white is what they get for away games. I still don't like the look though. I guess my biggest issue with ISU doing it is that we can never decide on a color, a look or anything else that goes along with our football team. Whatever the kids want to do, I'm fine with that, it should be up to the players and coaches more than anyone else. I just didn't like it when it became the norm for Iowa State to wear dark on dark or light on light. I think it's because I grew up watching the Cyclones when they wore light pants. Mainly Yellow/Gold pants, and to be honest, that's just the look I like.

How about the Insight Bowl

I think it would be cool to maybe do the throwback unis from 2000, but we have our new unis and the're pretty sweet. That would be cool to do a red out but we also look good in red and gold.

Some people are saying try all cardinal with our current uniforms. I took this from cyclones.com when the new uniforms were announced last year.

Looks better than I thought it would.

Aren't we trying to develop our new look? Is it just me or would it be ridiculous to go to a bowl game, get exposure on tv and wear some throwback with an old logo?

People would be even more confused.

I said better than I thought, but I didn't say good. There's still no way we wear anything but our normal home uniforms (cardinal jersey & gold pants).
