Iowa State will beat Baylor.

Good lord... who cares?? You can stat it out all you want (both sides), fact remains that the game will be decided on Saturday night regardless of previous performance or how many YPC in the previous games vs. previous opponents.

Just talking about past performance to talk up the game. Trying to get a feel for how they match up. Part of the fun of the game.

For the record, I had thought right after Saturday that we would lose in Waco.

But after thinking about it, I really, really think that the Cyclones will come home with a victory.

I know that others have been saying this... but apart from stupid mistakes, we are playing good football. And yes, you can separate the mistakes from the quality of play.

It's the little things like Lenz letting the ball go during that return. (He was fighting for extra yardage, which is good.) Like Steele throwing that pass a little late with Gideon sitting right underneath it. (He had pretty good time in the pocket on that play.) Like LJ losing his composure after forcing a punt. (Did I mention that we had forced a punt?) Like a lack of protection and a poor snap on the blocked punt. (The rest looked solid.) Like Jacques not turning around on the reverse pass for a TD. (He was in position and read the play well.)

On the flip side, we have an offense that was able to consistently rack off some nice yardage on the ground, even with a dinged up offensive line. We have a quarterback who is able to create something out of nothing on every play. We have two running backs that I believe are going to be very good ones when all is said and done with their careers. We have a receiving corps that is much improved from just one year ago.

Most of all, we have a defense that held Texas when it mattered. 3 early turnovers, two big plays by them, a special teams touchdown... that's how they got to 37. It could have easily been much, much worse with the lack of focus and discipline from this team.

Baylor will be more talented on offense than Texas, but much less talented on defense. Our defense will be in a dogfight with them, but will be hungry. Meanwhile, our offense will have something to prove. I think this is the week that the discipline makes a comeback in a big way. Sure, RGIII is a freak, but he's one guy. And we, as a team, are ONE.

Believe, Cyclones. Believe!

Fighting for extra yardage is good to a point, but more times than not, take what theyre giving you and go down, unless fighting for a 1st down or Touchdown. Sometimes you just need to get down & PROTECT THE BALL (especially if the team like ISU has had a problem protecting the ball!)

Maybe RGIII will drink too much saki the night before the game and not be able to play.

Sammy, don't let them get to you. I've been to Ames many times. Nice little town, but sort of dying like the rest of the upper midwest. Anyone knows where the real growth is located. Hell, ISU can't even keep it's graduates in Iowa. Most move to Texas.

Waco's population is more than double the size of Ames. Waco's population growth rate is 4X Ames' growth rate. And of course the State of Texas growth rate in population is over 6X greater than Iowa's.

Zero credibility for any clones who have not been here in the last 2 years. It's that different on our end in terms of gameday atmosphere.

If you went to Waco, when did you go?

To they move to Texas to become Davidians?

If so, doesn't speak well of ISU grads!!!! LOL!!!!!! I love town talk smack. Always the refuge of those about to get whacked........

Carry on, if it makes you feel better to ease the pain I'd do it too!!!!

Is that why you guys have your women's basketball teams claim to fame painted on your basketball floor? So you can remember your one shining moment?

Yeah there is plenty of opportunity in Waco. In fact I am checking this place out now. Hear that it's a fixer-upper but I'm willing to put the time and effort in.

Was in Waco in the fall of 2009 as I was heading down to Austin for the Texas Tech- UT game the year after Crabtree scored that TD to beat the Horns in Lubbock...

We stopped at the What-A-Burger across from BU and aside from the Baylor campus the town in very dingy. The campus itself is very pretty alot different from ours (not as many trees/ old looking buildings) but still very nice. The town itself is low income and alot of poverty as well.

I ate my hamburger and saw four guys sitting on a 7 ft cement wall just hanging out...

People dont give Ames enough credit. It is a college town that would be nothing more than Boone or Story City with out it. But its the college that makes Ames unique. Too bad the other people do not want Ames to grow, because it would do HUUGEE amounts of good for Iowa State University.

Not even in Waco or ever had anything to do with the city. Only mentioned due to proximity and the lack of anything bigger around.

Yet, when a vast majority of the Country hears "Waco, Texas" this is the first thing that they think of.

This. Ames is known for the university and perhaps the GOP presidential straw poll. Waco is known for some crazy guy with a cult.

Baylor is going to definitely score on ISU. Our defense has to stop them from scoring every time they have the ball. Then, if we keep our TOs and penalties to a minimum, we have a shot. And our guys have to score TDs cuz the kicking game is not good.

Question for the Baylor dudes:

What's the policy on bringing charcoal grills to the tailgate this year? We've been under an open burn ban in Austin due to the drought and wildfires, so I figured it was probably the same deal in Waco.
