its just a white flag i think? What’s their mascot?
People in the district decide where they want to go when they dissolve. At least is what corwith Wesley did.So does the AEA determine new district boundaries for the surrounding districts?
The Jenkins girl transferred from DSM North I believe. So are most of Johnston girls basketball team residents of the district? Or not?
I dont think so. I know that no decision has been made on how they are going to do it in Orien Macksburg, at least the last I read on it. That the kids dont know or have a plan yet on where they will be going next year. At one point in the past, I think they left it up to the people where they went, at least to a point when they dissolve a district. In a merger the district just joins, and you can open enroll out if you want. When a district completely dissolves, the process is different. So does the AEA determine new district boundaries for the surrounding districts?
Really have coached in A, 1A and watching 2A games when my sons played, the difference between the classes at those levels is not large at all. Only the jump from 2A to 3A was it really noticeable in my opinion. You rarely ever saw D 1 talent on the smaller schools, but DC saw Tyler Sash from Osky and the QB from Keokuk that went to EIU. It was just a huge jump, not only in talent level, but just the number of kids in the programs from 2A to 3A. This was before the broke the larger schools in to 5A.
Most schools are going to find teams to play that are close by, and not have to travel a couple of hours for a non district game. Now that may require the Van Meters of the world to play up a class, but since it's a non district game and would not count in the playoff chase, it really would not matter.
Totally agree that the state should crack down on teams that should be playing 11 man and play 8 man to get more wins. 8 man was put in to allow small schools to have a team, not for teams that have 40/50 kids out for the sport. They need to move away from BEDS and move to actual roster size.I've coached in 5A, 4A and A. There is a gap with A and 1A just like in every class. Sure. Mediocre to bad teams in any class will get smoked when they play up. And good teams in every class will smoke bad to average teams in the class above them. Not sure why everybody wants to crap on class A and cater so much to 8 man. A lot of class A schools at least have the balls to play 11 man football. I say make more 8 man schools play 11 man. Looking at you Don Bosco.
It was better for the big schools at least travel-wise when they played sophmore/JV games before Varsity. With the bouncing back and forth you have with a few of those kids it made things a little easier. My kid wound up playing two years of JV and that travel schedule was a grind. I think that was a big reason why he decided not to go out for his senior yet.JV, freshmen and JH games are all set up separately for small school usually. So they generally play all fairly close. I know the bigger schools play freshman games before the Varsity so that could be an issue.
Quite a few 2A schools do freshman/varsity games on Friday night because the JV kids may be needed in the varsity game. Heck some sophomores get OKed to play in the freshman game if one school does not have enough. Then they schedule a few JV games on Monday to get those kids some more playing time. You really have to watch the number of games a player gets into or you can go over.It was better for the big schools at least travel-wise when they played sophmore/JV games before Varsity. A few years ago they staryed playing three games on a Saturday afternoon. Or four. Man, if i was a parent of a girl JV and boy varsity that would be a long day. That’s why so many parents are thrilled when their kids go out for cross country and not play basketball. 45 minutes and you are out of there,Quite a few 2A schools do freshman/varsity games on Friday night because the JV kids may be needed in the varsity game. Top of Iowa plays JV and then varsity on the same night. If you have a boy and girl you get to show up at 4 for JV girls and leave around 9:30 after boys varsity. It blew.A few years ago they staryed playing three games on a Saturday afternoon. Or four. Man, if i was a parent of a girl JV and boy varsity that would be a long day. A lot of schools that have two gyms are playing 4 games some nights. The JV in the small gym starting at 5:00 and then the varsity game in the big gyn at 6:00. Makes for a long night for the kids, but that way they only have to take one bus on the road trip. Some schools are now doing that with Jr basketball also, play that game in the smaller gym why the varsity plays in the bigger gym. It's surprising the number of schools that have two gyms these days to play games in.A few years ago they staryed playing three games on a Saturday afternoon. Or four. Newton has two gyms in the middle school from what I was told.A lot of schools that have two gyms are playing 4 games some nights. So do they have to hire more refs than if they just used to have one gym?A lot of schools that have two gyms are playing 4 games some nights. Just was at newton high school recently and they have at least 2 gyms. My nephew played jv2 and there were 2 games ahead of his and games going on in the big gym as well.Newton has two gyms in the middle school from what I was told.
Generally they have two crews of officials, sometimes they only have 2 for the JV games. Make people enter at the same gate, so they only have to charge people once, and use the same concession stand. It works pretty sharp. So do they have to hire more refs than if they just used to have one gym?
