Waverly is a different story on that. This also isn't the only time they've been accused of similar things.

Meh, that was several years ago and could have happened anywhere.

The real issue was out of the other NE Iowa schools of that size WSR was thriving( for a number of reasons) and really mopping up on the competition. They were actually tired of just getting beat.

That might be the best option to get rid of a building. The old high school in Bloomfield sits there, they have been talking about tearing it down since they built the new one, going on 10 years now. They still use parts of it, but the main structure is as far as I know, completely empty. Many in the town would keep it there as a reminder of better days if they had their way. Have to say it would be a great parking lot for football games.
Didn’t know they don’t use the old high school. At Van Buren, when they reorganized with Fox Valley, the school district offered the old school buildings to the cities of Cantril and Milton. They told the cities if they didn’t take them, they would tear them down. Cities didn’t want them, so they got tore down.

That would make a great parking lot. I think the editor of the Bloomfield Democrat fell down to the entrance of the football field when he took a group graduation photo. That’s kinda steep.

The old Birmingham school burned down years ago.

It's steep as hell, I have always thought they should have built the new school where the football field is at, then built the football field on the site they used to build the school. They still use the gym in the old HS for varsity bb games, I think they plan on building a new gym and auditorium, within the next 5 years or so when the new school is paid off.

Van Buren has a couple old buildings, the former Harmony high school is still in great shape, but it's got to cost them a small fortune every year bussing kids from there to Keo and back. The Douds building is horrible and needs replaced. No way they are going to pass a bond issue to build a new elementary school at Keo, they already tried once and it sunk like a rock. The state keeps pushing for county wide schools, but Van Buren county a great reason not to do it without funds from the state to close older building and erect new ones.

Do you live in Davis County? My now deceased grandparents are from Troy and I camp at Lake Sugema about once a year to fish.

We spent 35 years in Bloomfield until moving up to Ames in May of last year, all our kids graduated from DC. My wife worked for the city of Bloomfield and the hospital before that. We both have a lot of good memories of Bloomfield and the friends we had there.

Ask your wife if she remembers the hospital having a dog leash by the front door for Doc Rasmussen’s dog who would trip the automatic doors and let himself in.

She said she didn't, thought that was after she worked there. She only worked there about 3 years then went to the city.

I wish Urbandale had accepted the invite.
-This is pretty balanced regarding numbers and geography.
-I know the Des Moines schools will stick together but Roosevelt would fit into Urbandale's spot.

I bet Urbandale reconsiders after school board elections this fall.
