I-35 / US 30 Flyover Progress

I overhead some folks talking at the career fair this week that the contractor has had tons of people quit because the project is going so poorly. Can't say I blame them. I've driven through there about every few months for the past couple of years and it seems like it never looks any different. At least not as different as it should.

What was the original scheduled completion date? Does anyone know?

Months ago I heard it was supposed to be operational for football season this year or dang close.

Is this the same crew that is working on the Reiman Gardens plaza near the South End Zone? That never seems to change either.

I haven't read the whole thread but from what I heard when I was back was multiple mistakes on the piers, multiple rebuilds. I wonder if they have a per diam penalty to complete the contract? Gonna be an expensive mistake no doubt.

I've heard of far smaller mistakes putting companies out of business.

Speaking of slow contractors, is it just me or is that new I-35/80 interchange at 100th St in Urbandale taking forever? That was graded last year so it amazes me that it's taken this entire year just to pave.

News earlier this summer said they are getting penalized $5500 for each day past the original deadline. It sounds like it was all due to bad surveying throughout the project.

That is if the contractor is still in business. I don't see how any contractor can survive a major screw up like this.

They are on at least year 3 of this project maybe even year 4. I drive that stretch everyday and swear they are never going to get done. I still to this day don't understand why they didn't finish it last fall.
