Husker Hatred

Do they though? Really?

I know they have a metric **** ton of money, I'm not doubting that, but so do most of the big boys. I don't think they have enough of a financial advantage to build a powerhouse these days.

Unless they grew up Husker fans, I don't think high school kids are exactly jacked up about going to Lincoln.

Nebraska has big time money, they have VERY deep donor pockets.

Matt Campbell was beating ranked teams in his second season. At home. On the road. It didn't matter.

Maybe Ruhle will figure it out, but he's not shown anything super impressive yet.
If Ruhle doesn't get it figured out soon, he will be fired. Huskers do that even with good coaches that don't win enough.

I'm extremely happy for Frank Solich. He had a very nice career and a very nice life after getting out of Nebraska. He had the last laugh!

Living in SW Iowa, we hear all the time that they are relevant/a blue blood/playoff worthy. They will never be back
I went to the Nebraska - UNI game during our last bye week with my buddy who's a rational Nebraska fan. I couldn't help but laugh at the guy who was screaming "WE'RE SO F****** BACK" as we left the stadium, which was after the "Blackshirts" allowed 300 yards to the Panthers.

They do have a lot on big donors and money behind the program, but almost all the advantages that fueled those 90’s teams are gone. They had the perfect timing, support within the state, and lack of competition to fuel those teams. Those advantages have disappeared including the following.

Partial qualifiers

Local scholarships within NE that went to “outstanding” students attending Lincoln who just happened to also be the best football players as well, supporting a unfair “walk-on” program

Any issues with football players being swept under the rug/hidden from the public or media

Outsized TV presence compared to other schools

Top tier strength and conditioning (along with performance enhancing boosts) when other schools weren’t investing in this near as much

They can certainly improve from the past 10 years of poor teams, but I believe they should have been happy where Bo Pelini had brought them.

Unfortunately for any coach who takes that job the expectations are still being a “blue blood” program and winning national championships. Those days have passed them but their fans still don’t realize it almost 30 years later.

I'd add in the advantage of being in a conference (the Big 8) where Oklahoma really cared about football , Colorado and Missouri did sometimes. Okie Lite and KU were rarely better than good and frequently a lot worse. ISU and K-State bounced between okay and dreadful.

The last 25 - 30 years, but particularly the past 15-20, everyone is pouring resources into football.
