How good is N. IL?

I'll admit, I was all aboard hiring Montgomery as coach.

Hoiberg worked out okay as a consolation prize.

I see they are 5-5, but do have a close loss to UNO, which our friends to the East think is a good team. Looks like they have some hyphenated foes they have wins against, which is not real impressive.

According to Hok fans, they're one of the best football teams in the country.

I remember when people considered Mark Montgomery a candidate to replace McDermott. An associate head coach at Michigan State and considered one of the top assistant coaches in the country. Unfortunately things have not turned out well for him at Northern Illinois.

And CW did have this weird dream:

When I was going to grad. school at Central Michigan (hence the Chippewa part of my handle), one of my best friends was a manager for the basketball team and I actually got to meet Mark Montgomery through him, as Montgomery was an assistant coach for CMU at the time. Cool guy; very sharp and charismatic, and he learned his craft from one of the best coaches in the country in Izzo. I think he can get the job done at NIU as long as the administration is patient.

As an aside, I also met Cornell Mann the exact same way when he was at CMU as well.

The hyperlinked thread is read worthy, I wanted to like 90% of the comments. Hindsight is 20/20 but great for an early morning laugh while waiting at the airport.
