How do you make a PBJ?

Don't make PBJ's, but I do have the recipe for a JB & P.

Take a fresh, crusty baguette, slice it down the middle, add butter and then thinly sliced ham.

In France, that's called a Jambon-Beurre...the "P" stands for "Pression", the glass of draft beer that goes with it.

If the sandwich is for immediate consumption I will do PB, then jelly. I can get an acceptable amount off the knife on the clean side of bread. If grape jelly it is a squeeze bottle but if it is a homemade jam it is in a jar.

If the sandwich is going in a lunch then the PB must go on both slices of bread with the jelly in between so the jelly doesn't make the bread soggy.

If made for the kids it gets cut in half. If made for me, why bother?

I'm not sure Im OCD enough for this question. LOL. This is something I have never thought about. I actually think I probably do it different every time. Although I don't make them much anymore, I love a good PBJ.

This goes along with the TP roll thing. Its something I never really think nor care which way it goes on. I'm not sure if that makes me indifferent to some of these type of somewhat trivial yet very popular debates or what. Because I think there are some that I do have very noticed preferences.

It is interesting how some take note how they do some things and others not so much. I know some know which leg of pants they put on 1st, how they put on their shirt etc. But these are things I have no idea if there is a certain way I do it every time, I just have never thought about it or payed attention to it.

I remember going to a seminar about different types of personalities, type A, B, etc. I would guess this is one of the traits.

Now I will have to make a PBJ and see how I do it, but then I am not sure if that would be true test as I would be thinking about it and bias the results.

Vote other, meaning "none." Can't stand PB&J, never liked it. Peanut butter or jelly, sure. I'm down with either.

My ex wife would always make hers pb first, then jam. I know this because it'd frequently get a little peanut butter taste when I had a toast and jam. She refused to use different knives, or completely clean the knife before going for the jam. I'm not saying it was the reason it didn't work out, but it was pretty emblematic.

What kind of monster puts the jelly on first?
Exactly!!

It's a PB&J sandwich- so peanut butter goes first. Plus the key is a serious amount of PB.

Otherwise it would be J&PB sandwich.

Heck, I'm just OK with jelly. Would much rather have a couple slices PB&B. Peanut Butter plus a couple big slabs of Butter is far superior to jelly!!

The ratio is personal preference, so you can spread the pb as thick or thin as you please.
Exactly. I make the sandwich for my consumer. I use smooth for everyone else and chunky for me. Daughter doesn't want much PB with grape. Son wants more with rhubarb jelly. Mine is double chunky PB with rhubarb or strawberry. Kids' sandwich is cut in half, mine is whole...

It's called a dishwasher

:jimlad:
Look at the elitist who can afford to run the dishwasher as many times as he wants.

I ain’t got time for all these rules, slap some pb on a slice then squirt the jelly on the other slice, mash together and eat. If I’m feeling fancy I might drizzle some honey on the pb instead of jelly. If using honey I’ll pb both slices of bread or toast the bread and serve open face.

PB first, jelly first we are all grey and squishy inside. But those freaks who use the Goober stuff need to be banished to the 9th plane of hell.

Lot of wrong answers in here, ashamed of you all.

Everybody knows you put strawberry preserves/jam on the left slice first, wash the knife, and then put peanut butter on the right slice. Jam only, jelly is weak sauce. Fact.

I’ve also trained my wife on the right ratio of jam to PB as that is just as critical.

I can’t believe people dirty two utensils to make pb&j. Do you use a spoon for cereal and then pour any remaining milk into a glass as well?

Its not just about the cross contamination of the jars, but also about the better tool. Knives are good for spreading peanut butter. Spoons are better for spreading cold jelly.
