Donovan Smith still haunts my dreams, so it’s possible
As long as Garibay isn't kicking, I think we'll be OK. I was there. Never, ever have to go back to Lubbock. Weird environment, the student section got cleared. I knew it was not going to end in our favor at that point...

every single message board I've seen has had confidence....albeit there are a lot more less confident UH fans than confident....but you would look at the Arkansas State board and think they are Georgia fans the way they were propping up a potential upset......it's weird to say as an Iowa State fan but I never feared playing Arkansas State lol.

I trust CMC and the guys to be ready for UH and not have a letdown here. There's so much to play for....how would you not be locked in?

Go Cyclones!
We were guilty of that vs Utah in 2010 and got smoked. That score was bad but it wasn't close to how far off we were to matching up.

Way up there
I could see this being similar to our North Dakota game, Rocco comes out sharp and we jump on them, they play decent the rest of the way but are kept at arms length. Houston played OU ok abut that said more about OU than Houston IMO. OU has big time issues offensively, that let Houston hang around. I think we're better offensively, get a couple early scores and they fade.

And I get sick of fans who, ignoring the fact that major upsets happen EVERY week in college football, declare Iowa State's next game should be an automatic win. Then they scream bloody murder when Iowa State is upset.

There are no automatic wins in college football. Just ask Notre Dame.

The experts in Vegas have made Iowa State a 12.5 point favorite over Houston which makes us a solid favorite, but far bigger favorites are upset every weekend.

Clear favorite is not equal to automatic win, so don't be critical of fans who realize that.
Depends on your definition of "far" but in general that's just not true.

If some of you are doing this much pearl clutching for the worst team on the remaining schedule I don't know how you're going to make it through the season.

ISU absolutely could lose, but it would be a surprising and infuriating result given what we know about this team.

If we are as good as we think we will win easily. If not then we won't and we will be brought back to earth. Pretty simple.

I'm surprised one of them didn't refer to the ass-beating their basketball team took against us in the Big12 tournament as a way to compare what our football team will expect come Saturday.

I love having them in hoops, but they have to be the least interesting football addition and I don’t think it’s all that close.

It would help if they had more of a fanbase

The case for Houston is very similar to the case for UConn (only UConn is more so) --

-- both reside in a gigantic metro area where nobody cares about them (if UConn counts for NYC)

-- great basketball (UConn more than Houston but both are powerhouses historically)

-- terrible football (Houston has had more periods of success than UConn ever has, of course, and I would imagine a school in Houston has access to more talent than one in the Northeast)

-- BY wants to add them anyways despite these drawbacks

-- Houston was mostly added to backfill the conference to give it the numbers to have some chance at survival... which is less of a factor but still a factor if UConn ends up in the Big 12

And we'll see in hoops long term.

Their fans act as if they had consecutive sellouts from Phi Slamma Jamma straight until this recent dominant run. In reality I'm sure they had some incredibly empty years given they don't even have broad football fan support.

I'm guessing they're no different than any other Texas program we've had in the league (Baylor, A&M, UT, Tech, TCU), decent support when bball is really winning, hardly any in average and bad years.

It is what it is though and if we hadn't added them to grow the conference larger I'm sure the ACC would have Houston, UCF and Cincy in it already if not BYU. It was the right call.

I wonder which of the first four adds you'd keep (if any) if you knew the Pac-12 schools were coming. I would imagine BYU and Cincinnati would be a "yes" but I wonder about UH and UCF.

I would imagine UH and UCF would be in the ACC now had the Big 12 passed on them. I wonder if they'd still gone for SMU at that point (maybe?) and the NorCal schools (who might have been better off in the long term to stay with the Pac remnants as it reconstitutes itself picking over the Mountain West).

Tabouli is bulgur wheat, tomatoes, cucumbers mint, parsley, lemon juice and olive oil mixed.

As for Houston, their offense stinks. As long as we dont give up any special teams scores or turn it over like ksu did at byu, we should be good.

We're not clutching our pearls. We're just rolling our eyes at folks who post the obvious (that we should win a game where we're a 12.5 point favorite) and dismiss others who have concerns about a possible upset.

And yes, these kinds of upsets happen weekly.

Week 0:
Florida State was a 10.5 point favorite over Georgia Tech and lost at home.

Week 1:
Virginia Tech was a 13.5 point favorite over Vanderbilt and lost.

Week 2:
Florida State was a 16.5 favorite over Boston College and lost at home.

Week 3:
Notre Dame was a 28.5 point favorite over Northern Illinois and lost at home.

And for the record, I'm fairly confident ISU will beat Houston, but winning a conference game on the road is never easy regardless of the opponent, so I wouldn't be shocked if we have one of those awful nights where we end up beating ourselves.

We were a 31 pt dog against OU in 2017 and won. Also, hate to bring back bad memories, but we were a 41 pt favorite against Drake in 2018 and eeked out a win.

I was pleased that we ran our offense all game against ASU. We tend to score big when the running game is going. I’m loving our rotation of RBs right now.

I have to wonder what kind of confidence UH has inside their locker room right now.

Houston held OU close and gave them a scare at OU. HOU isn't terrible. ISU should win and I hope it will be two or more possessions, but to state unequivocally the "game will not be close" is foolishness. I would bet the line will be between 10 and 14 favoring ISU. Not a pushover, and I would expect a game that is still in doubt in the 4th quarter.
I'm not convinced you can take anything away from the OU result other than Oklahoma still has a lot of that signature Lincoln Riley softness to them, and they thought they could just show up and turn it on if and when they needed to. It's not something new IMO opinion out of OU.

Which makes the move to the SEC all the more dumb, but explainable given their front running arrogant attitude. They made a deal with the devil when they hired an offensive wizard that stripped them of their toughness, and they are a very long time removed from the OU defensive days. It's not fixed and the SEC is a terrible place to try and fix it on the go.
