Absolutely. Steve Prohm still has never lost a game as an Iowa State coach.
a team starting 5 seniors and you blame the coach from 2 years ago that we don't have many young guys contributing.
A smart coach should have known you couldn't count on either of those two making it here this season. Both were HUGE question marks.
Pinning his big man hopes on Malou and Lard was highly questionable at the time, and looks worse after neither qualified. He needed to get a big that would actually make it on campus to play this season. That's not on Hoiberg.
That excuse is feasible for next year...but not this year. At some point the blaming of Fred Hoiberg for every loss is not going to work. Maybe CSP should have taken a great roster last year and gone to the Elite 8 or the Final Four. Maybe he should have taken advantage of the best mismatch in college basketball and gotten us to 12-6 or 13-5 in the Big 12. You see CSP had a chance to build off the Fred momentum and use it to propel Iowa State to land a couple of big-time grad transfers. But that didn't happen we actually regressed slightly...lost T.J. and now we are settling for Bowie and Holden.
People act like the Malou and Lard academic things came out of nowhere. There is a reason why neither one took any other visits.
They were both rolls of the dice, but we had no better options.
Holy **** shut the **** up already about this. If Hoiberg stays we end up with Diallo and Coffey with a good chance at Miles Bridges. He didn't stop recruiting altogether, he just couldn't make promises to these kids that he knew he couldn't keep. The recruiting narrative is terrible and its an excuse for the piss poor head coach we have right now.
I'm glad we put all our marbles on high risk guys. Did anyone really think Malou would make it when we first started targeting him? Lard was pretty questionable as well.
He might start by targeting some guys that dont have academic issues, and I dont know, can actually make it to campus.
This exactly, he took a stacked team with an All American player and turned them into a 6th place team last year, followed by an NIT team. This is getting completely ridiculous. He wasnt even good at Murray, 1 tournament in 4 years.
Prohm has literally the best recruiting class ever coming in next year.

Who cares how many stud recruits he has coming, the guy cant coach.
The comment was he cant recruit. That's clearly not true. His coaching will dictate future recruiting.
