Hoiberg Watch 2015: Friday, May 29 Thread

I find it hard to understand why people are convinced that Fred truly may be torn about whether he wants to give the NBA a try versus staying at Iowa State. Everyone is so eager to talk about conspiracies, lying, people screwing other people over. Almost all of this talk takes a lot of stretching to believe.

Sometimes the simplest answer is the most likely. Maybe Fred is having trouble deciding whether to take his shot in the NBA or stay at Iowa State. Its a major life decision. Huge ramifications. I'm sure he's given it a ton of thought, and maybe he made a decision in October or in March, but maybe, just maybe he still hasn't decided.

You may be right. This is probably one of the most difficult decisions of his life. However, whether it's true or not, most fans believe that Fred has known it would go down this way for a month or more.

Personally, I find it hard to believe that he hasn't known this was a STRONG possibility for quite some time. It makes the "not a done deal" quote feel disingenuous. Seems like it was put out there by the source simply to combat the "gentleman's agreement" story from Woj.

Btw, good on CW for getting this story. It's really the only thing that has been put out there by anyone in Hoiberg's camp. We all take for granted that CF is free and just so happens to have the best Iowa State content on the web.

I'm just ribbin' you guys. I think you guys will be fine without Fred. He set you up with a pretty damn good team. If you guys can do some damage this next season, I think you'll build momentum for future teams even without Fred.

Speaking of yourself again? Fred owes you nothing and has been open from day 1 that he wanted to coach in the NBA, and his opportunity apparently has come. That makes you the only greedy and self-centered one.

It'd be totally awesome if someone would source that claim. The first references I can find to him even sidestepping the NBA question is about a year ago. Before that he is totally silent. Just quote after quote of "dream job" and "want to be here a long time" and "hope to retire here".

That's how everybody I've talked to is acting. No. I cannot fully confirm it. But there's a much, much higher chance that Fred is in Chicago next year and not Ames IMO.

That would be such a dumb move for Fred in my opinion. What is he going to do in 5 years when the Bulls fire him?

He could retire here at Iowa State as an All-time Legend of College basketball. If he leaves, he will likely suffer the fate of Tim Floyd.
