I hadn't seen this pop up yet. but now that the season is over it looks like it is down to 3 candidates: Messenbrink (27-0), Starocci (26-0) and Hendricksen (27-0). I don't know their body of work over the season, but the finish makes for a good argument for Cap'n 'merica. There was some talk earlier (on Varsity?) about MM being the front runner in their eyes. Maybe others in here have more information on just how dominating the season were for each.

Criteria in order.

Winning % is a wash. Starocci has a slightly better bonus rate but WH has a better fall rate. WH had the tougher weight (competition) and beat two national champs on his way to the title and also had a 5x AA in the bracket who he beat at the conference tournament. Sportsmanship? Some twitter fueds but no major on or off the mat issues for Starocci. A little cocky but what 5 timer wouldn't be. WH gives you military service.

I can see it going to Starocci but it's not supposed to be a career achievement award. After last night, WH should get the nod for the actual better season. I won't be surprised if they split it.

This was Wyatt’s fifth year. He had a chance.
i meant historically speaking. its like saying someone broke the nfl passing yards record just because they played more games. does him winning 5 make him better than cael because cael only won 4?

No, but it puts him in pretty exclusive company.

Who’s saying that?

I think it’s a relative tossup. Both Starocci and Wyatt are undefeated. Star has better bonus while WH has more pins.

WH had an amazing NCAA tournament. Should we award him more for 1 amazing win or Star for 5 amazing years.

Cool story with Capt America, but 5 timer & beating returning 184 champ should have gotten the Hodge. CStar never won the Hodge, right?
