Maybe Meyer has been paying attention to the success of our coaches after they leave ISU.
Long-term it is a good thing, even if Herman was the best OC at ISU since McFarland.I don't care how it's spun....but it bothers me that a winning coach like Urban Meyer snagged our OC away to be his OC and we're told it was a good thing.
This is the same argument people make against Tebow. Because his stats aren't gaudy, he isn't an NFL player.
Urban Meyer doesn't go off stats, he goes off game film, and he sees the dropped balls and turnovers in the red zone. He sees something in Herman that you obviously don't.
No offense, but I'd bet on Meyer's eyes. The only thing that matters is that Herman has been a part of near 3-year streak of getting a team bowling in the toughest conference who also just happens to have three years of experience coaching against a Big Ten school. Convenient.
I understand if your argument is that he's wrong for us but right for them, maybe. But Herman is highly recognized and widely acknowledged as a possible future star. Maybe he hasn't delivered on that promise yet, but, trust me, Meyer doesn't care about the scoring stats, for a reason. If it was just a question of getting the highest scoring OC out there, he would have gone after Okie State's or Baylor's or Boise's for that matter.
What programs do retain coaches? Even high profile programs lose coordinators. Chizik went from Auburn to Texas to us. Muschamp went from LSU to Auburn to Texas to Florida.

Penn State !!!!
If our offense could protect the ball and make field goals, our numbers would look a hell of a lot better. There isn't much Herman can do about those.
And Urban Meyer shares an agent with Tom Herman according to a buddy that works in the Jacobson Building. Same buddy said all coaches had job security and raises coming their way.

Another blow for the conspiracy theories.:twitcy:
I don't know about right for them, but I do know that he was wrong for us. I do think he is a good OC and in the right situation I think he could look like the best in the nation. ISU isn't the right situation for sure. Still, it is very unusual for someone to look as unremarkable as he has at ISU and get a promotion up to one of the elite programs in America.
Maybe Meyer did see it just like you say. My question is, what about Herman caught Meyers eye? Did someone suggest him to Meyer. Did Herman approach Meyer? Did Meyer just see a ISU game and think, I like this guy? At a glance he hasn't been impressive, what made Meyer look closer?
Iowa - that is why they are a top echelon program
Looks like the demotion/lateral move discussion can be put to rest. OSU's release lists him as Offensive Coordinator/QB Coach.

The calls at the ends of the Iowa, UConn, Okie State games are heart stopping, bold, and very, very Florida-esque. To say that there weren't some explosive and surprising offensive plays this year is to have missed the game.
The offensive execution against Texas Tech was elite. No other way to see it.
Trust me, there are plenty of gamebreaking plays that were the result of offensive execution that make any football coach stand up and take notice.
You don't get that explosion on accident, even if even more offensive plays are left on the table due to execution. I honestly don't know what plays I would have called different this year (maybe a handful, but negligible). What held us back was dropped passes, untimely (not systemic, just bonehead, hamhanded or just plain error) interceptions in the redzone.
With improved execution, we score at least 14 more against KU, Texas and maybe even 21 at Baylor.
Freshman Center. Freshman back-up QB. Short receivers who occasionally wear mittens to outdoor games.
Urban Myer looks at all this, plugs in the best talent on the planet...and his mouth starts to water.
Maybe his insight is off. Maybe he's stuck with 23 points/game.
But I don't think he looks at the accomplishments at Iowa State and sees only a defense. The defense didn't blast holes for Woody. The defense didn't toss it to Lenz for a 40-yard touchdown. The defense didn't slice away at the corners to set up breakaway sweep plays.
I think Herman showed some really impressive calls at times...most current being the wheel route in ot...but at times I felt like we either had the zone read or a bubble screen...got really old
Jeez. I'm away for a couple hours and suddenly he's going to be an OC? Wasn't some "insider" just saying he got the boot?
