Re: ***Offensive Coordinator Search Thread***

Scott Frost QB Coach at Oregon would be a great hire.

Wasn't he the pssy that let Lawrence Phillips beat the crap out of a girl. No thanks. What makes him a good hire? He is at Oregon? I don't know if he is good or not but I know just being on a staff of a team with a potent offense doesn't make you good unless you are creating game plans and calling plays.

My meaningless Internet vote is Steve loney.

Why are people worried the he won't hire a spread OC?

That's the whole reason CPR brought Herman in because that was the type of offense he wanted...he said when he was hired that he wants to run a spread because he knows how difficult it is to defend...so he's going to bring in someone who knows how to run a spread...

How about UCLA's ex head coach? For real though just get someone who the players will like and be excited to play for I am sure it will be spread offense because CPR contacted clones21 and asked who runs a spread offense. Just kiddin clones21.

Jim Walden?:jimlad:

Only if he brings back "The Fans Plan".

Haha......if you remember that. Fans would actually write in a play for them to use that week in a game....and they would literally run it each week.

I'm pretty confident it will be a coach who runs a very very similar offense.

This may have been covered earlier, but is there any one currently on the staff that has Texas ties? I'm thinking that the next OC will have Texas ties to help and recruit Texas.

Go away from the spread time to start a new era of offense, wildcat all the time or the hail mary every play. I guess we could stay with the spread though.

Re: ***Offensive Coordinator Search Thread***

My guess... A couple years as assistant at OSU gives better shot at a head coach job than a couple more years at ISU. Especially if the O is good and the team wins some hardware.

Herman had his name in the mix at Texas State and that went nowhere. Which moves the needle more? Urban's assistants have good luck at moving up the career ladder.

Don't assume that this was CTH making this decision because it wasn't. He took a position because his contract was not going to be renewed.

Is punt formation the spread? If so, we keep the spread and run variations of fake punts on every down. When it fails...just punt and let the defense go hulk smash on opponents.

If this is true it would indicate that CPR already has an idea of who is going to replace him. But also why announce it now and not wait until after the bowl game unless TH isn't going to coach it.

I hope we go after the Houston guy. Messingham was at USM right? Did he have any contact with their OC, or his he relatively new? Houston OC would help with Texas recruiting, while USM might open up SEC country some.

I would assume he wants to get the new guy announced soon.

11 pages in this thread, can't check all of the posts, so I'm sure all of these questions have been asked (and possibly answered):

1. How important is it to find a coach with a similar philosophy that can build on progress of this system, considering player development, returning roster and incoming recruits? That is, how "adaptable" does it need to be (it can't be night-and-day, I'd assume)

2. How much is (1) mostly dependent on Rhoads overseeing it?

3. For others who are "just old enough" (like me), does it seem like the attention given to coordinators and position coaches has grown exponentially within even the past 15 years?

4. For people who have been critical about the offense under Herman — have you (a) sensed progress during the last half of this season? (b) do you think ISU is bound to improve under a new coordinator? Or does that depend on who it is?

1. Very
2.
3. Yes
4. The play calling improved the last part of the season, but I wonder how much CPR had to do with that. There will be improvment with a good OC, this is a young offense.

There's only one qualification important to me. We must have a MENSA member calling plays.
