Hello from Fort Worth!

Hickory Park brisket is really good IMO. It’s a lot like KC brisket.
I realize I could be setting off a firestorm. Technically HP does not serve brisket. The word brisket is replaced by sliced beef. I asked about it once and was told they use sliced tritip instead. Both are awesome if done right, but are very different cuts. If you like HP's sliced beef and want to call it brisket thats cool. I'm sure they appreciate when people call it brisket, because thats what they want people to think it is.

Anyone making the trip and wanting to hit a classy bar for the night should go to scat lounge. It's an underground bar with live jazz. You might need a reservation

Our offense is going to be very good this week. TCU's defense? meh, a bit overrated if you ask me.

Total Offense Rankings (pts/g):
ISU 120 (out of 130), 18.7
TCU 44, 35.3

Total Defense Rankings (pts/g):
ISU 41T (w/South Florida), 21.0
TCU 49T (w/Texas A&M), 22.5

Our defenses are basically even. Our offense compared to their defense is much worse than their offense compared to our defense.

There does seem to be a big difference. But if we would have played and won easily the SDSU game, our numbers would be better by strength or weakness of opponent. They say in their thread, they already won the two easiest games on their schedule and all the rest will be tough. We played offensively vanilla in two of the three games, hoping our defense would win them for us. I suggest by game 8, our numbers will be closer together on offense.

One fan's post:

"I predict that 6'6 receiver they have has over 200 yards."

That'd be cool if it happens. Probably requires throwing the ball downfield to Butler more than 6 times.

It would only take 4 of the 50+ yard TD completions to get over 200 yards. He had two against OU. Why not 4 against TCU?

Based on the Ohio Sate game I would say they are overreacting. I thought they looked REALLY good against Ohio State for about 3 quarters of the game. Then they just imploded over about a 5 minute stretch and OSU took control.
I did not see the Texas game.

Similar meltdown against UT.

TCU had the lead coming out of halftime and the defense had a couple series of stops, then the offense imploded with three turnovers.

Don’t listen to these fools. Hickory Park over Jethros, Smokey D’s and whatever else they try to tell you.

Listen...HP is inexpensive and good food..and they have awesome sundays/ice cream. It is an Ames instituation. That said, most of us have fond memories and hit it often when we're in Ames. But we're also realistic and have since left the Ames' bubble. HP is what it is, which is great, but let's not lose our minds.

The barbecue scene in Des Moines has amassed more bragging rights, and there's no end in sight.

Darren and Sherry Warth, the husband-and-wife team behind Iowa's Smokey D's BBQ, took home the top prize with a perfect score for the chicken category and Best Overall at the American Royal World Series of Barbecue Open Competition, held at the Kansas Speedway in Kansas City from...

Thanks and welcome WhitehispanicFrog. I have a crew of 7 coming down for the game. What are some of your recommendations for:

Food
Bars (staying in downtown Ft. Worth, but would like to see whatever "campus bars" there are.
Tailgating

I want one, just one, discussion with an opposing fanbase to not turn into a HP debate.

I really kind of wonder how consistently these BBQ joints can make their bbq and how people’s judgements are somewhat dependent on the day. I kind of want to go to BBQ tasting camp.

I've actually never had BBQ at Hickory Park. I always get their burgers which are good and at a good price.

For BBQ, Smoky D's is the best I've had in central Iowa, though though it's not in Ames

I went down to Ft Worth for the game a couple years ago. I think they had school break at the same time so campus area was dead.
