There will still be enough talent to make the Big 12 a tough schedule, wins mean more than schedule strength.

You want to have a deep league with everyone worse than you. It does no good to have a team like KU and lose to them twice and not get the league title.

This is very unexpected, with this news I don't see Staten coming back next year.

That depends on the goal. If it's to win as many games as possible, you're right. If it's to become a better team that's more prepared for the postseason, that's not necessarily so.

Winning a regular season Big 12 title is the first goal. I don't want the Big 12 to be the SEC, but I would love to be in KU's spot this year. A super deep league with nobody who is as good as you over the whole season.

or by winning games, playing basketball that is fun for the players and getting better recruits.

You don't think playing in a highly competitive league means anything to recruits?

We don't have to be in an easier league for the first two things you listed to occur.

Playing in a weak league doesn't help ISU get into the tournament/improve seeding.

Calm down guys, one guy from one team is not going to make or break the strength of the conference. WVU had a decent year and beat some good teams, but they weren't world beaters by any means and didn't make the tourney.

Yes it helps. But we already have tough teams in the Big 12, we don't need TCU, TT and WV to be good. It's nice to have some teams we can count on for guaranteed wins.

This league has three potential top 15 teams in Texas, Kansas, and yours truly, Iowa State. Oklahoma State and Baylor won't suck, Tech is finally going to be somewhat relevant. The only teams that will suck in the league next year are WVU, KSU, and TCU. And the former two won't suck THAT much.
