Harbaugh

Not at all. The points about what I felt CMC would most be interested in for a future job was said to be dumb. It was alot more accurate than thinking money would be a driving factor. I have kept names out of this post to protect the stupid. :jimlad:
Your "name" is on your post. Just sayin'. :mccaffery:

I’m not worried based on what Campbell and CW have said. But I also don’t know what the Campbells would consider an offer they can’t refuse.

Hopefully I'm wrong but if Campbell is offered the Michigan job I think he would take it. Think that is one of the few jobs he would leave for.
No one knows for sure but that is so, so far from a sure thing.

There was a really good article on ESPN prior to the weekend game about how it's most likely to play out.

Basically came down to either he walks away on his own accord or they extend him. The belief is they will do anything not to fire him, and short of losing out, will likely have to extend at least 2 years. The last thing they want for recruiting purposes is for him to be going into the final year of his contract with no clear future.

Personally, I think he's most likely to go back to the NFL after this year to save face and retain his legacy at Michigan.

There's no legacy left at Michigan for him as a coach. The first couple years were promising but things are in a bad, bad way right now.

Gosh, it’s almost like you want us to believe what the man himself as been saying from day one. That he wants a place where he can build something special, establish his own legacy. Weird.
Campbell is not materialistic. He's not the type of guy that gets wowed by a few more million dollars thrown at him. And let's not act like Michigan is in some great place right now. They're no different than Texas in the fact that they believe they should be contending for national titles every single year, and when they only win 8, 9 or even 10 games, their fans and boosters are repulsed.

Campbell is at a place where his staff is treated like royalty. He's treated like a king by the community. He's getting good recruits to come to Ames. He's putting players in the NFL. Iowa State athletics is pouring more money into his program because his product is what our fans want.

How many times does Campbell have to say that he's not leaving Iowa State before our fans and the stupid national media members get a clue that maybe this guy actually likes it here?

That all sounds nice, but you're naive if you think that's the whole story. Michigan is one of the most tradition-rich programs in the country. And millions of dollars means something to anyone. Most of the things you say could be true, but that doesn't mean there isn't a legitimate chance that Campbell could leave.

Wonder how all this is figured in when ISU could have almost all of there team back and they are in first place in the big 12 this year?

I would be more concerned if the Ped State job opened up. tOSU as well. Not that worried about Michigan.

Florida State and Florida are tradition-rich programs as well and CMC didn't think about taking either of those.

May not be the best comparison, but Brian Kelly was on today and he was asked if thought about taking on the ultimate challenge of the NFL. He said no. The number one thing he valued was the control he had at ND. How much control would CMC have at one of the big dogs like Michigan?

On Cowherd? Yeah I caught that too.
Kelly came off great IMO.

Looks like we are projected to play in the Alamo Bowl again, Matt wants to go back to San Antonio and win this one. By the way, the hoks are projected to play in something called the "Dukes Mayonaise Bowl". Quite fitting.

Is it overall just a bad fit in the long run or has Harbaugh gone down the road of grinding people down like he was reportedly known for elsewhere and they've stopped support?

Tough question to answer. My opinion with a little bit of reading between the lines is this:

Harbaugh came in with a known reputation as a guy who will grind you but also as a guy who, without exception, would make a good football team in short order and you would win. Personally, I thought that was great for the college game because it's a close-ended system and college kids need that structure to be at their best.

I'm going to try and make this short but I think the issues are pretty layered here. He started off great. In 2016 he's playing for a spot in the playoffs and they barely lost to OSU. People weren't unhappy with this because he doesn't have an experience QB yet and there are still some hole left by Hoke. Things are going well. 2017 is where things changed. My opinion is that Harbaugh generated so much attention to things people would overblow that somehow the AD affected change in him. I think they wanted him to tone it down and I'm not of the opinion that coaches can change their demeanor and attitude and be as effective. Harbaugh got a bad rap as a lunatic and he was but one thing I always admired about him is you didn't see him dressing guys down and you didn't hear him throwing players under the bus. I've seen Matt Campbell far more viscous to players on the sideline than I've ever seen Harbaugh.

Since then, they haven't beaten much in the way of good teams. They've lost every bowl game, they lost to OSU every year, they lose to MSU far too much. He's held on to coaches too long and he's not replacing them like he did right away. He's not seeing early that teams have learned how to get Don Brown and he either isn't forcing him to adapt or he's not moving on. They haven't recruited well on the inside or outside on defense either.

There's a lot said about stuff behind the scenes and it's tough to parse out what's true. The guy doesn't seem to be beloved by his guys which is fine if the winning keeps them around. I just think it's toxic and he either needs to figure out what changed or both parties need to move on. Thing is, it won't change for the next guy unless the people around UM football quit trying to micromanage and hold this view that their football coach act in the way they think he should.
